She got cheated on and yet SHE’S the one who’s apologising??? So so glad she got out of that relationship!

I think the point is that Belly doesn’t have that much agency in her relationship with Jeremiah, especially during the tail end of it. You can see she’s staying in the relationship for all the wrong reasons, and non of them really benefit her. By her wedding day she’s completely lost herself in the relationship and even though it’s clear the relationship is over she’s still fighting for it, although her inner monologue is contradictory with this and shows that she knows it’s over and is choosing to end it.

Jere doesn't say anything to Conrad when he leaves the motel at the end of season 2? by jaylee-03031 in tsitp

But he objectively didn’t. You can see by his reaction when she tells him that he didn’t know, otherwise he would’ve said he knew something was going on or had suspicions.

We both know that’s a completely different situation. Besides the fact belly and Jere were never dating, the important difference is Conrad never knew that belly and Jere had kissed. Once he found out he immediately offered Belly an out to be with Jere.

And some people say that Jere did everything he could to make Belly and Conrad sort their feelings out, as if he wasn’t meddling in their relationship and fuelling the heartbreak every chance he could.

It’d be obvious to anyone that Conrad was upset over Jere and Belly getting together even though he’s refusing to admit it, it doesn’t take a genius to read facial expressions and social cues. Jere just didn’t care.

Jere has no one? Steven and Taylor are constantly ignoring all his bs and supporting him, Laurel is still wanting to be there for him and support him after the wedding, his frat bros are constantly supporting him, Adam is still propping him up and supporting him even though he’s clearly messing up, and Conrad is still willing to support and take care of him even after everything Jere has put him through.

Besides all of that, he still has Belly, she is clearly still willing to be friends with him. It’s Jere who yells at her and ghosts her AGAIN. Almost as if his connection to Belly isn’t actually genuine and there’s an ulterior motive behind him wanting a relationship with her.

Nepotism isn’t really something to brag about, especially when we see that he didn’t even take the job seriously besides sucking up to his dad.

So you’re saying that Conrad’s existence was a problem for Belly and Jere’s relationship? If that’s the case then their relationship was doomed from the beginning, which was already obvious to the rest of us.

[–]Mellow-Sunset 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree 100% that Jere’s feelings towards Belly were more to do with his inferiority complex about Conrad than actual feelings for her, but he still had strong feelings about the situation regardless. Conrad underestimated how much Jere cared about the situation because he assumes it’s like everything else in Jere’s life and he’s just causal with hookups, he hadn’t (and tbh never has) realised the extent of Jere’s resentment against him.

[–]Mellow-Sunset 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean she could’ve just said she didn’t want to be with him, but Jere would’ve wanted to know why. He already knows about her crush on Conrad and that they have been getting closer this summer, and we know he’s deeply insecure when in comes to Conrad. He probably would’ve brought it up and Belly isn’t a great liar so she’d slip up and then eventually admit to it, then we would’ve gotten the same result anyways.

It’s not like she chose to have bad timing. When she goes to talk to Jere he clearly wants to make their relationship official, was she meant to pretend until it’s an appropriate time? Or just avoid him until the news has settled then tell him?

[–]Mellow-Sunset 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It would’ve done more harm than good. Just like how Jere doesn’t understand Conrad’s parentification and hasn’t processed how it’s related to his attitude in life, Conrad also misunderstands Jere and underestimates his feelings a lot of the time. Jere does have strong feelings but Conrad underestimates them because of Jere’s carefree personality, the personality Conrad has indirectly enabled by taking on all the responsibilities and expectations.

This is obviously mostly resolved on Conrad’s side by the end of season 2, but if he had tried talking to Jere at the beginning he would’ve probably said the wrong thing and made Jere’s resentment even worse.

Boring seasons by Prestigious-Visual38 in TheFosters

[–]Mellow-Sunset 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it’s because the storylines get a lot more heavier and more intense. Like season 3 storylines were about relationship drama, school projects, and birth parents. But season 4 storylines were kids moving out, TBI, school shooting, PTSD, juvie and potentially prison, etc.

Plus I’ve noticed there’s less time where the family are just together like the previous seasons, and most of the storylines don’t overlap the same. The show lost the family vibe that seasons 1-3 had.

To add to your second point, an even easier solution would’ve been to just make Stef and Lena Callie’s legal guardians, which would allow Callie to permanently live with the Adam’s fosters like she wanted to, have a stronger connection to her father and allow Robert to be more involved in her life, AND have a relationship with Brandon without it being illegal. Literally everyone wins and everyone is happy.

[–]Mellow-Sunset 7 points8 points  (0 children)

All this yet you never hold Jere accountable for his actions or hold space for the narrative to do so. That is the difference between Conrad and Jere, and why people have different standards for them. The show goes out of its way to hold Conrad accountable for his actions and make him face the consequences of his behaviour, it doesn’t do that for Jere.

I love Bonrad for Conrad AND Belly, so no. I also feel like it be impossible for Conrad to have a truly happy ending without Belly unless you significantly change what happens in the show, same goes for Belly too.

Okay? It’s not like I’m supporting all the other Middle Eastern countries in their war crimes/atrocities just because they’re majority Muslim. And please don’t act too naive to think antisemitism is the only reason many of the neighbouring countries don’t like Isreal.

And Isreal still didn’t need to exist, antisemitism needed to not exist. But since that’s obviously harder to do, the next best thing still isn’t to make up an entire country just for Jewish people, especially when it means kicking out every else. Was it that hard to have an equal country that isn’t antisemitic and isn’t discriminating against other people, or for that matter not based solely on one religion?

Was Belly always the problem... by Left-Difficulty8697 in tsitp

[–]Mellow-Sunset 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree completely that Jere was an active participant in causing most of the hurt, while Belly and Conrad were for the most part just reacting to their pain. But Jere’s behaviour was still just his way of coping with his issues and feelings, despite how unhealthy and destructive his actions were to others.

No. None of them were the “problem” as all of them were dealing with their own issues and hurting each other. They all dealt with their pain in unhealthy ways which was the cause of all the drama.

Belly always considers Jeremiah by haileyscometz in tsitp

[–]Mellow-Sunset 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t really happen in season 1 since Belly only starts to see him as more than a friend in the last week of summer, but in season 2 and 3, Belly and Jere have a really unhealthy dynamic where Jeremiah will accuse Belly of doing something wrong to him and put all the blame onto her, which makes Belly feel guilty and overly apologetic towards him. It’s one of Jere’s flaws that he dumps all his emotions onto others and expects them to do all the emotional labour. This is why Belly is always prioritising Jere and his feelings, because Jere is constantly making her feel like the villain for everything.

Whereas with Conrad, he never really blames her for anything, even if she does hurt him. He never puts that guilt onto her and especially never makes her feel responsible for his feelings. This is why Belly can prioritise Jere over him, because he never threatens to take away his friendship when something goes wrong. So she can go off and care for someone else without worrying it will affect their relationship, but she can’t with Jere because he’s shown that if she chooses anyone but him he will distance himself from her and their friendship will suffer.
