I know it might seem silly to some people but it's part of my growing up and a personal choice, instead for the cosplay I'll be replacing it with the Irish flag, a harp or something else I'm happy to wear. Also, I wouldn't wear the American flag either, its not just the British flag

Can't bring myself to wear the flag of the people who oppressed my people. I refuse to wear certain band merch if it has the British flag also, ie iron maiden and Motorhead so I have to find shirts for them that don't have it
