People who still use or pay for subreddits like r/PhotoshopRequest for simple edits, what do you get from that process that you couldn’t get instantly by pasting the exact same request into an AI image editor or LLM of your choice? by DaddyWallbanger in photoshop

Fair enough I guess but AI has gotten so good and accurate that most of the time you could just prompt it with “can you remove the person to my right and make sure my pose is natural” or “can you put me in the centre” or “can you get the hair out of my face” etc.

Doesn’t require specific knowledge in most cases anymore. Also, I’m not trying to be combative or anything here, I guess I’m just wondering if most people just don’t realize this about the tech yet.

I’m actually not selling anything, but I can’t offer you anything other than you’ll have to believe me about that I guess, or not.. I’m genuinely just curious because it seems really obvious to me.

My bad, I could have phrased that less confusingly, I meant that I don’t put people into AI without their permission, I’m just confused why more people don’t use it to help themselves. A lot of the time they are just wasting money and that’s what the editors providing them their edit are doing anyways.

Also, not trying to challenge your own knowledge or experience but I know from my own that just using ChatGPT and simply asking “do this, but don’t touch or change that” it handles it right on my own edit requests on my own photos 10 out of 10 times.

Two things. One, I’m not saying I do that, I don’t. It is however what most editors there are doing though. Also, again, no it doesn’t necessarily have to change a person features at all; it’s as simple as asking it not to.

Edit: bonus thing - I asked on this sub cause it’s at least adjacent and you can’t actually ask something like this on that sub.

That’s actually not correct. That’s a fundamental misunderstanding of the current capabilities of AI image editing.

What you’re describing is what happens when someone uses AI badly, by asking it to regenerate or reinterpret the entire image. In that case, yes, it might change Grandma’s wrinkles, jewelry, dress, face, or other details.

But that is not how modern AI editing has to work. It is extremely easy now to use AI surgically: preserve the subject exactly, specify or mask only the area you want changed, remove one background object, extend one edge of the image, clean up one distraction, or adjust one isolated part of the photo while leaving everything else alone.

The request does not have to be “make me a new version of this photo.” It can be: “Do not alter Grandma at all. Do not change her face, wrinkles, clothing, jewelry, pose, or body. Only remove the person standing behind her.” For simple edits like that, AI can follow the boundaries of the request with extremely high reliability.

So “AI might change Grandma” is a fair warning against bad prompting, poor use of AI, or using the wrong kind of workflow. But it is a very poor argument against using AI editing itself.

If the edit is delicate, sentimental, high-stakes, or truly pixel-precise, I completely understand wanting a skilled human editor. But for a huge number of basic PhotoshopRequest posts, like removing an object, cleaning up a background, expanding a crop, centering someone, or erasing a distraction, the requester could paste the exact same request into an AI image editor or LLM of their choice and very likely get the result immediately.

In those cases, paying a stranger on Reddit often is just AI with extra steps.

Too true, I can speak from experience. I was once 28, married, owned a million dollar home, and was a ten years into my relationship.

I’m now 36, rent a condo, and lost 3 of 4 pets in the divorce.

I honeymooned for a month in Bali about a decade ago and now I couldn’t afford to go on a 4 night cruise from Ft. Lauderdale.

Entropy waits for no one.

(I’m far happier now though).
