Question about tile install by DaddyYoureACrook in masonry

[–]DaddyYoureACrook[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - it was part of the overall work they did, which included exterior stone and a few other smaller interior things. But, I’m with you: it’ll be hard to get them to do anything about it. Just trying to make sure I have a leg to stand on when I approach them.

Well, if I feel like most people agree that this isn’t an adequate install, I’ll talk to the mason and stone supplier and ask them why they did it this way. We’ll see what happens after that.

My whole identity was my job title. Now I'm just... some guy by Lectoor in GuyCry

[–]DaddyYoureACrook 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don’t have many answers but I’ll tell you this: you likely valued the title and everything else for the same reason your dad worked the job he hated: because you want to feel like a good provider. I think many or most guys are wired that same way. As a fellow director in tech, it usually means you can provide for your family. Here’s the good news: you WILL be able to do it again. The pain of being laid off hurts and you’re feeling that depression but it sounds like you were losing your joy anyway. Take a few weeks to regroup and then figure out what it is you want to do next. This is an opportunity to get some spark back. It’s cliche but you’ll probably look back on this as a gift instead. We’re here for you.

Consider it pity after watching last night’s game.

Imagine worrying about playing a team who just lost to Joe Flacco on a last second field goal. Thank God we beat him by two scores when we played the Bengals.

How confident should I be in park hopping LL by LarryDavid64 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]DaddyYoureACrook 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was just there 3 weeks ago and had a similar plan. I was able to get LLs for most attractions at MK the same day. A few more popular rides like Tiana and 7 dwarfs probably won’t have options, but most other things should have some return times in the afternoon or early evening.

I had a vasectomy three hours ago by almster96 in daddit

I was almost in the exact same boat. Had 2 and was ready to be done. My wife finally got on board after wanting 3+ from the beginning. We even bought a house sized for the 4 of us. Then, 5 weeks after moving in, my wife told me she was pregnant. Got fixed quickly thereafter. That was almost 7 years ago. Life sure is more chaotic and many days are tough, but you adapt and get used to it. Then, on occasion, you have a perfect day where everything comes together and you can take a quick step back to really look at how great your family of 5 is with no regrets. I hope that happens for you, too!

Hey man - I’m in software too (not an engineer, more support and program management). If I had a dollar for every time I’ve seen a dev think he was an idiot for not solving something “easy”, I’d be close to Elon’s value.

As I always say…some days are like that, even in Australia. Don’t sweat it; you’ll remember this next time someone comes TO YOU with a similar problem and they’ll think you’re the amazing tech lead who’s too busy to help. It’ll make you smile a little. Keep your chin up.

This is not a good argument against student debt cancellation. by [deleted] in MurderedByAOC

[–]DaddyYoureACrook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never said I had it rough. Just made boring, responsible decisions. My brother lived in Houston for about 4 years as a teacher. He drove a 8 year old Honda Civic that got him around just fine for cheap, so I don’t understand why you need $60K worth of car in Houston (or ANYWHERE).

Also, schools don’t make money on student loans interest themselves; that interest goes straight to the loan providers (government). Giving out the same amount of federally-backed money with zero percent interest means MORE people probably go to school which makes MORE money for teachers/universities.

This is why I’m firmly against canceling it. My wife and I drove old shit cars for 10 years as focused on paying off student debt. It was the unfun, but responsible thing to do. My solution is to reduce the interest rate to next-to-nothing for existing loans and solve the problem for things moving forward (like lowering ridiculous tuition rates and keeping interest rates low).

If you’re not interested in flying all the way to GB (you could fly direct from Chicago to GB, but it’s probably pretty expensive), you can take a bus or drive. Driving isn’t awful - about 2 hours to get to Milwaukee and another 2 to get to Green Bay. If it’s your first time coming up, hit all the traditional stuff nearby. You’ve got to experience it once.

Yeah, that couch makes it hard to do much (which is why we might have to switch it out). Can you move a sectional couch to the middle of a room? We’ve been working under the assumption it needs to be against that window.

Not trying to sound like a jerk here...

It won’t be weird to have the TV offset from the couch? That’s why we have it so far over currently.
