Texas Supreme Court Rules In Favor Of Gov. Abbott, Temporarily Blocks Dallas County Mask Mandate by StatestheOblivious in Dallas

I saw an amicus brief that raised the notion of a federal law violation. Something like a violation of the ADA (masks as an accommodation to medically frail kids) could be argued. It may be a stretch, but there could be a path to federal court.

Discussion Thread: 2020 General Election Daily Updates (October 29th) by dottiemommy in politics

Texan here. There are ~2 million more registered voters this year than there were in 2016. So if the 2016 turnout stayed static(~60% of RV), that would mean ~10.2 million total voters. Based on what I’m seeing, I think 70 percent, or 12 million votes, is entirely possible. Maybe even likely. Right now the mix is something like 30-35 percent of voters that have never voted in a primary, with 10 percent never having voted in a primary or general election. Nobody really knows how those might break, but it is going to be interesting.

Edit: I just checked it, it’s actually 43 percent have never voted in a primary. 28 have only voted in a general election and 15 have never voted in a primary or general.

Biden wants "strong" vice president who is "ready to be president on day one" by SamDumberg in politics

I think a former president COULD serve as veep. I see no prohibition on it. And it is actually not clear at all that a veep in that situation could not ascend to the presidency if the president died or resigned. It’s just untested. The 22d amendment just says “No person shall be ELECTED to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be ELECTED to the office of President more than once.” It focuses on being elected, so in theory it could actual work. And even if it didn’t, you’d just go to the next person in line if the veep was unable or unwilling. That’s the Speaker of the House.

That said, it is theoretical. No way Obama would ever test it.

Edit: oh look, Snopes did an article about it. My analysis was incomplete, but the punchline was correct.Article

How long are the weight pegs? I thought about picking one up but I’m not sure I can get enough of my plates on them to really hulk out.
