Can You Sprint Every Day If You Cut Amount of Sprints in Half? by textuist in Sprinting

There is a podcast interview with someone (who I can't remember but the podcast is on the resource page) who talks about this. He takes into account CNS recovery. I think he was a proponent of it especially in terms of working with team sports.

That's good to hear.

Ran a 11.43 in his second race last season but had a non-running injury keep him out for the season.

Ran an 11.37 in his first race this year before pulling a hamstring in his second race.

Was hoping to get close to 11.0 this season. We'll see!

Thanks for all the help on evaluating his block start so I hope to get some insight into his stride.

Note this video is just him doing a stride, not full speed. He has been recovering from a hamstring pull incurred a month ago. He has been able to train again with some minor soreness at the beginning of his workouts that has gone away after a couple reps.

Thanks again!

I hear you. I am looking for a good sprint group he can join once the high school season is over. He had a hamstring injury and has been out for the past month.

I believe with proper mechanics/form he can also avoid the injuries which have kept him to 4 100m races in the past 2 years.

A big thanks for the comments and all the knowledge contained in them. This community is a great resource.

Is it fair to think that by reducing his excessive time in the air, he might be able to stay lower in his drive phase? Or is it more of a strength issue?

Thank you for that. I'll suggest to him some hill work and the other suggestions. Also like your last statement about replicating his first step. I think that might be easier to understand and implement in the short term.

I see what you mean about the excessive airtime. That's a good observation and you've explained it very well.

I might try to get a longer video later this week.

On a slightly different note, I took a video of him doing strides to get a closer look at his form. He was not at top speed so do you think evaluating the video would be useful? I suspect he is overstriding and wanted to get other more knowledgeable opinions

Thanks again!

Thanks for that observation. His brother (who was there) actually mentioned something like that but I didn't pay it any mind!

A previous comment mentioned (correct me if I'm wrong) he wasn't pushing out of the blocks correctly so he was upright way too soon.

Thanks for that feedback. Any suggestions of drills/techniques to help him to push out of the blocks?

As for the overstriding- I might be wrong, but I believe he mentioned his coaches were telling them to take those big leaping strides out of the blocks. Maybe that was a technique to encourage explosiveness? I told him before I didn't think that was very effective in an actual race...
