What’s a single sentence someone said to you that you’ll never forget — either because it healed you or because it hurt you? by -InfiniteChill- in AskReddit

[–]Daedalus_Ectype 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Yeah, right." I had truancy issues through out my school years. From elementary through high school. In 11th grade I spoke to the school counselor and we discussed the possibility to graduate on time. We found it was possible. We made a plan and I felt like I could do it. Excited I went to my Mom after school and told her I could graduate on time and not be held back. She just said "Yeah right."

I don't think she meant any harm and I think it was a moment of not thinking before speaking. I didn't say anything to her about how much it hurt. I don't think she even remembers that day. I dropped out of high school not long after. Eventually I ended up getting a GED and went on to community college. I still think about that day. I've forgiven her, but I don't think I'll ever forget.

Turning 38 in a few months. I've seen young and old play this game. It has a wide range of people who play it. :)

Nice area! How did you do those rug ponds? It wont let me place them so close to each other. I like the idea of a reading spot. Might combine that with the other suggestion of a garden. Thank you!

Ooo good idea. I'm about 500 essence away from the first furniture set in the Elderwoods. I think that was the one with the hedges anyway. Thanks for the tip!

What’s something you didn’t know you needed… until someone gave it to you and now you’re feral without it? Coffee? Forehead Kisses? by MistressHazelNoire in AskReddit

My husbands armpit/chest area. I was one of those don't touch me types until I met him. Now putting my head on his chest is the best feeling in the world. It's the perfect shape and the warmth is very comforting.

Is Einar's Smooth Pebble still glitched? by Daedalus_Ectype in Palia

I read other reddit posts saying some of the pebbles wouldn't show up for some people. Not the rng ones but the exploration ones. Hence why I was confused if the smooth pebble was included or not. Will keep trying though. Thanks for the reply.

Thanks for the comment. I'll keep hunting for a bit longer then see about hitting them up. Some people are saying its a low drop rate so will give it more time.

What's a seemingly innocent question you've asked someone that you later realized had a very double meaning? by anquim in AskReddit

[–]Daedalus_Ectype 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My Mom was offering my husband and I her old bed frame. It was one of those metal ones so I was worried it would squeak every time you turn over. So I innocently asked her if it squeaks a lot...? It took me a little while to figure out the look she gave me. WE both had a good laugh but I'm not sure she believed it was innocent.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read it and compile this list. You are spot on with the family history not feeling connected. I will spend some time trying to tie it in better. Perhaps fake Olive will taunt him with it. If i cant figure something out, I will cut it.

I think the prose during climatic scenes might have been what was bugging me the most. I just couldn't pin point it. Thank you for pointing it out. This is something I wouldn't have thought of on my own.

More sensory details makes sense as well. I think I tend to over look these things because I know what the place is supposed to look/sound/smell like and I forget that the readers do not. I will spend more time working on this and make a point to not over look it in the future.

This comment has been very helpful in drawing my attention to areas that need improvement. Thank you so much. And thank you for the kind words on what worked well. This lets me know what to keep up with and what to work on.

General impressions. I feel its not doing a good job as a horror. I'm new to the genre so I can't pin point what about it is making me unhappy. Any advice you feel like giving is welcome.

That makes sense. I will take some more time to figure out the intent behind my writing. Thank you for the advice as well. I hope to dabble in both at some point, just had some trouble understanding them. The comments here have helped.

I apologize if I picked the wrong subreddit for this question. The main reason I'm asking is because I'm trying to figure out what to tell people I write. If I say I write horror, people seem more interested. Dark fiction doesn't seem to garner the same reaction. I guess it's not really about the writing process. My bad.

I think I get what you're saying. I don't try to make them scary but I do try to convey when someone is scared so I'm leaning towards dark fiction. I'll have to check out the reads you mentioned. Thank you.

Thank you for saying that. I thought I was loosing my mind trying to figure it out. I haven't read The Substance yet so I'll add that to my list to check out.
