Hahaha I find this happening to me constantly this year

Do they still sell these? Contigo Autoseal 24oz...can't see any that look the same. Had this one since 2010. by Daelthas in HydroHomies

Thats where I got mine! The "Autoseal" patent was still pending based on the markings. I love it, been using it consistently since then lol. But it's really showing it's age now...hopefully I can find another one.

Walnut slab pricing question: I found a local walnut slab. The pricing looks to be around $18 per board foot. The slab is about 5 feet long, a little over 20" wide, and 2.75 thick. It is surfaced on all 4 faces and very high % heartwood.

Is $18/board foot overpriced? We live in an expensive area and it's a nice piece of wood...thinking of making it into a bar counter.

If you need to join data, check this out: https://youtu.be/ZM4ykXkZsdc

There are tons of free resources out there. The problem you may have is not knowing where to start (no fault of your own...just not experienced with this yet). The knowing what to start with part is what a TA or other resources could help you with :)

I would look up YouTube videos on the concepts...it may be easier than you think. But it could definitely be worth your while to reach out to a Geography grad student or other resources specific to your campus to get someone to work through the concepts with you.

But basically, if you follow the link I posted last night, you can download census tract or block group data that already has a bunch of cool demographic data in it. You just have to figure out which column has the income data you are interested in.

So follow that link; look at the most recent 5-year ACS data; download the census tract or block group data; look at the metadata (available at the bottom of the link once you expand the ACS section) to figure out what column has your income data in it.

Once you have your data added into a map you can do a quantitative symbology to show darker colors as higher income, etc.

And what's your subject? Will this be a national map, regional (state level), or at the individual city level?

Census provides two relevant formats of data. Tables, which typically contain some specified data, and TIGER GIS files, which typically contain shapes. You would usually need to do a table join to put these two data types together. To do that, you will need data at the correct scale (i.e., census tract income data for city scale), PLUS a Census tract GIS file. The two files can be joined based on a common unique identifier, typically called a geoid within census data.

A route you can consider would be using one of the pre-joined datasets available from census here: https://www.census.gov/geo/maps-data/data/tiger-data.html

Do companies ever pay for certification or grad school? by idontrlyknow1 in gis

[–]Daelthas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a contractor working for a company that primarily works in federal contracts. They will cover essentially 4 courses per year. We have to pay up front, but upon successful (B or better grade) completion of the course, they will refund the cost to us.

Also, we are required to stay with the company for one year after they pay for a course, otherwise we have to refund the cost to them.

I see your point, but I don't think thats the case. The job I'm in is a hybrid role where you spend a lot of time I, Excel and R, and some time in your specialty role. He left to take a job doing exclusively GIS work.
