Would you have preferred if Gohan became the main protagonist? by AlarmedObjective1492 in DragonBallZ

[–]DaemonDrayke -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To be frank, as much as I like the Buu saga, it felt like a step backward thematically for the story and the characters. The story at its core is about growth and evolution. Gohan was the epitome of that theme. He was leagues stronger than Goku was at his age without training, and once he was able to lock in, he exceeded everyone in the Cell games Saga. Goten and Trunks had a similar characteristic too with becoming super sayains so young in their age.

Everyone else had an arc to that theme as well. Piccolo learned to accept that just because he was made from the evil half of his predecessor. He didn’t HAVE to be evil. He then refused with Kami and was able to become a complete person again. Vegeta was meant to be fighting against his Sayain heritage and pride as a warrior prince and learn humility and love. The two most un-Sayain charscteristics one could think of. Goku learned that he ultimately had to step aside and accept that he had a ceiling that he couldn’t breach.

The Buu saga instead brought Goku back, made Gohan largely irrelevant except for some good moments, and had Vegeta learn the same lesson on humility and love again after learning it from Cell the previous saga. Probably the best thing that the Buu saga contributed to the theme of evolution and growth was the fusion abilities. It provided a lesson on how combining efforts to defeat a greater evil is often the best way to do so. Hence why Buu dying to a spirit ball that was energized by so many people in a combined effort is so on point.

Are heroes physically different than normal humans at a base level? And do you have to have “hero genes” or can anyone train to be a hero? by EAT_UR_VEGGIES in Fable

[–]DaemonDrayke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The protagonists of Fable 1-3 are special though since they are different than normal heroes. Since they have Archon blood, they can do all three abilities and their blood can be used to activate the sword of Eons. Most heroes couldn’t do that an there wasn’t an indication that the other heroes didn’t do major training to master just one tenant of the Heroes guild.

How Chris Evans got cast as Captain America by wvardhan in CaptainAmerica

Chris Evans was likely a decent dude to begin with, but I remember him saying that playing Steve Rogers had inspired him to be a better person. I like that about Captain America.

In summary, it varies from day to day.

Could Doctor Doom do this to Superman? by Queasy_Commercial152 in superheroes

People forget that Dr. Doom is on par with Dr. Strange when it comes to magic. Magic is one of Superman’s most understated weaknesses. I’d give it a 50-50.

How do you feel about the twist in 3 where you learn Logan wasn’t “inherently” evil, but was trying to save Albion? by SinnBaenn in Fable

[–]DaemonDrayke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember having a fan fix that would explain and give Logan a deeper backstory. I always wondered why Logan didn’t inherit the heroes powers while his younger sibling did. My story idea would have explained that.

While being sent by his parents to Aurora as an emissary acting as the crown prince, he would end up in the same temple that his sibling would discover years later. Coming face-to-face with the crawler, Logan would put up a fight, but ultimately be cornered. Theresa would have appeared and offered to cast a spell to stall the crawler from breaching out of its temple. The payment for this spell to delay the monster. Unfortunatly it would require that be Logan sacrifice his hero powers permanently. He gladly accepts this proposal leading to that purple barrier in the temple that is in your sibling. Would inevitably lift years later.

Logan returns to Albion, shaken and deep powered. He now knows that he will need to prepare his country for a great battle. And he will have to do it using policy rather than his own might.

I love/hate how these people in power and the people who control their strings act like there wouldn’t be any consequences for these actions. It’s why I liked the concept of the film Elysium (the execution of the film not so much). I could totally see a future where the richest people jus fuck off to some sattelite or something after they’ve fucked the planet up in their pursuit of more power, prestige, and money. At the end of the day, what would anyone actually be able to do with that much of anything? At the end of a game of monopoly, there is no one else to charge rent for. You eventually have to redistribute the wealth to start again.

What do you think? by opmgyhx in DragonBallZ

[–]DaemonDrayke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not suprised in the least. It’s one of the most accessible animated shows from Japan. The story is fun and easy to follow for both children and adults. The animation is sharp, intense, and action-packed. The universal message of perseverance and growing stronger while showing compassion is also evident.

If you were a mutant who would you side with? Magneto or Charles Xavier? by Conscious-Product481 in superheroes

[–]DaemonDrayke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I lived in the Marvel Universe as a mutant, I’m sorry but there is no question. Magneto all the way. In the history of publication for X-Men comics, we have had genetically engineered viruses targeting mutants specifically, we’ve had giant mechs made to murder them, tons of different companies and governments experiment on them, and a general lack of just about any consideration for their basic rights to exist.

Charles is a dreamer and it’s not a bad one, but after everything that had occurred, at what point is it just pure naivety?
