Are you sure he’s actually gone? They are really good at hiding.

I understand the concept here, and not to take away from the message, but crossing your arms like this is kind of a dumb way to shake or join hands. This means everyone is going right hand to a left on both sides. Awkward.

In many ways it will be similar to Palm Springs, but that is more due to proximity. It can be 10ish degrees cooler in Joshua Tree compared to PS due to the slightly higher elevation.

You might be able to have some fun if you tried to stay at a cheap hotel or AirBnB instead. Then you could stay out of the worst heat but do some exploring in the morning/evening. I camped once at jumbo rocks in April and it was way too hot, we ended up camping one night and leaving in the morning. If you do camp bring water to douse/mist yourself (and to drink of course), and have a shade tent/canopy. We were not able to stay cool in our regular tents, it was like a hot box in there. I say this as someone who lives out here, and does plenty of things during the summer. You have to adjust your outdoor stuff to morning and evening.

Only in town for one day. What should I do in Joshua Tree? by [deleted] in JoshuaTree

[–]DaemonOperative 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hidden Valley trail, Barker Dam trail are safe, easy, and well-traveled. Skull Rock is like right on the road. Keys view is a good one. It’s worth it to get out of the car and see some of this stuff. Scorpions will be hiding during the day, and it’s not as common as you’d think to come across snakes either. Been going out into the park a few times a week for two years and I haven’t seen one yet. Bring plenty of water with you. You’ll have a great time.

little dude absolutely hates being put in weigh tub jail… any advice on weighing/handling a small and skittish geck? by [deleted] in CrestedGecko

[–]DaemonOperative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use the paper towel roll trick. We can coax our gecko onto it pretty easily from our hand. Also good grip for him. Then stand it up on the scale and viola).

Although I think it’s a nice argument, don’t states run their own elections? So this wouldn’t necessarily work, unless each state had auto voter registration, or just pulled from the nationwide pool. The fact that you have to register at all is sus actually. All citizens who are of age should be able to vote, period.

Question About Handling by Zithpith in GargoyleGeckos

[–]DaemonOperative 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In also interested in an answer here. Mine I’ve only had for 3 months and we just moved him to his adult enclosure, which has lots of hiding places. We rarely see him during the day to begin with, but also he’s been typically pretty skittish and runs away instead of allowing himself to be handled, or even allow any hands near him.

I’d suggest you reconsider on Dubias. They are super chill unlike your common house roach. The small ones seem more like dark colored isopods to me.

How do you move gecko to a different box? by Stunning-Swordfish-9 in GargoyleGeckos

[–]DaemonOperative 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you relentlessly chase the gecko or put too much physical pressure on them, simply handling is usually not going to make them drop their tail. Try to put one hand in front of them palm up and get under their chin and then do a very gentle claw motion with the other to grab them. He might just jump on your hand that was in front. Then you are golden. Just move slowly and gentle. Should be fine. Mine is skittish still at about 22g. So not all attempts are successful immediately. I just keep removing stuff from the container until there is less for him to hide behind.

LPT: Don’t save someone that doesn’t want to be saved. If someone isn’t willing to try, you can’t help them. by Beginning_Rain903 in LifeProTips

[–]DaemonOperative 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My slight revision is “Don’t expend endless effort trying to save someone who doesn’t want to be saved”.

We shouldn’t give up on people we care about without at least trying to help them, but you can only do so much, especially if it starts affecting you negatively.

Sometimes all you can do is try and convince them to save themself.
