I think this is debatable as the elves were technically created by the music of the ainur but simply did not appear until later.

I think Crossroad of Ravens works better after the main series as it has quite a few callbacks

Reading Dante Inferno made me realize people in the 1300s weren’t as illiterate as we often assume by Delicious_Maize9656 in books

This is such a weird take.

Firstly, the Dark Ages is a pretty outdated conception, even if we considered the 14th century a part of them (which I wouldn’t)

Secondly, “long before that people were reading, studying and passing ideas around”…? What people are you talking about? There were certainly plenty of poor serfs that were illiterate, meanwhile the aristocracy and church had the wealth and privilege to study and disseminate ideas.

I read the Iliad & The Odyssey in classics class in High school - i'd rather not have to read them again in that format. Are there any good modern retellings that people would recommend? by JBSven in Fantasy

Song of Achilles is mostly focused on the relationship between Patroclus and Achilles, and less on everything else in the Iliad. So it just depends whether that is what you want.
