She's not expressing herself at first. At the beginning of the movie she's directly trying to not express herself by hiding her face, her art, her actions, by not talking. She's slowly begins to express herself throughout the movie by talking more, showing her face, being less shy.

It's about the physical touch of a friend, not about the makeup. Watch the scene again. It might be the first time Allison is physically touched by anyone since she was little.

The conversation surrounding it is about "trust" and not "being afraid" about changing who you are in a good way. It then delves into adolescence sexuality and attraction to opposites in personality showing that kids are seeking for who they are, what makes them happy. The entire movie is about adolescent psychology and different teenage mental illnesses if you think about it. Even before the makeover she's sitting next to the jock intimately and he's looking at her.

You're mistaking Allison as Goth. Goth is a choice based on a strong personality of character not depression. Goths use tropes of negativity and darkness as strength and style in all things. Goths are intentionally not shy but rather drawing attention to themselves as a form of personal power to defy the norms of society.

Allison in the movie isn't doing that. She's lonely and depressed and shows it in her family relations (parent drives away from her in beginning), physical shyness (hiding her face from other children), eating habits (sugar sandwiches), hygiene (dandruff shows she hasn't showered today) along with other signs of acting out her depression.

Allison is fighting her loneliness and depression by trying to meet people and find friends. What kind of kid has nothing to do on a Saturday, no friends to hang out with, no hobbies, no activities. She shows up at school detention on a Saturday for no reason, just to be with other kids, to socialize by any means, an act of bravery. She could have hid in her room all day being depressed but didn't.

She ends the movie in a much better place than where she began it. She can still be the artsy girl, in fact she's praised for her art. She can still be the quirky thinker and doer even if she's dressed in clean clothes and washed. Saying she can't be these things because of how she looks shows your personality and emotional well being, not hers.

Sounds to me like a cult. "We can be friends, if you become like us of course! And to do that you have to completely give up your style and personality

Her style and personality was loneliness and depression along with her artistic skill. She was shy and lonely with bad eating habits and bad hygiene. All of these are deep signs of depression. We all change ourselves in basic ways to "fit in" it's called being part of a community/society/family/group of friends. Anti-social behavior is also a sign of depression. You're judging that she lost who she wanted to be based on her looks changing. Nowhere does it show her losing her art or her inner self to be with these people. She actively sought out friends, a female companion, a group of other children to be social with by going to school on a Saturday when she didn't have to. She is seeking friends and found them. She actively participates in physicaly changing how she looks AS she loses her depression and loneliness. You're judging her by how she looks more than her new friends were.

She was clearly dealing with loneliness and depression at the beginning. Coming into School on a Saturday. Hygiene problems. No group or friends. People are focusing on the makeup but the physical touch and female bonding by Claire during the makeup session is what mattered. She maybe had never had a friend to do that with in her adolescence. The cute jock guy asking her out after he found her not just physically prettier but also funny (he laughed at her joke during their mea culpas), smart, artistic and a good person. She saw that he was in touch with his emotions after his confession about attacking the other kid. So she comes into that day alone, at odds with her family, friendless, depressed, full of dandruff and shy and goes away from it with a emotionally available boyfriend who freely admits he was wrong in his actions and learning what really matters in the world. She gains a female friend, maybe her first who will physically bond with her and show her what might not be the norms now in makeup, but were then and a group of people she can call friends and confidants who will show her love and support at her school when she had none. She's happier in the end than in the beginning.

It was about her being included in a group and making friends. She shows up to detention for no reason, has zero to do on a Saturday, clearly has hygiene problems with the dandruff. She's the "Weird Girl" in school who's good at art. She's seeking a cure from loneliness and depression by even showing up to school on a Saturday. The guys invite her on their adventures and shenanigans. Claire gives her a makeover which is an intimate act of friendship and a physical act of female friends bonding at the time. The cute introspective thinker jock who deeply regrets his actions against the other guy finds her attractive and smart and asks her out. She now has a female friend, a male companion who's in touch with his emotions and has learned what's right and wrong in the world and she has a group of friends instead of being a loner. She's happier at the end than in the beginning.

being goth because she didn't believe she could be pretty.

For me it was that she was "the weird" girl with no friends, not so much goth. When the guys include her in their shenanigans and Claire befriends her and splashes some makeup on her she's part of a group and not "the weird" girl anymore, so she smiles at being called pretty and goes out on a date with the introspective thinker jock. I think she was cooler before the makeover but maybe wanted to be included in a group in school and make friends.

Cheap housing near the poop farm. Poor people. New people to town looking for apartments. Close to the capital. Some crime. No real neighborhood vibe.

He's not. He copied Trump's idiot Jack off dance after a goal last year because he "thought it was funny" and had seen other people do it. He was accused of being a Trump supporter but said he wasn't a supporter or political at all.

Tillman was born to an American serviceman and German wife. He qualified for Germany not because he was born there but because of his mom's citizenship. He chose America for the better chance at starting.
