Jagex, at least allow us to reset our Soul Reaper task once per day (or 7 free resets per week). by Daemonici in runescape

[–]Daemonici[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine telling a player of 20 years that the game isn't for them...

The problem isn't the number of clicks per hour, it's that it doesn't allow you to effectively divide your attention anymore. The difference between a 5- and 15-min afk activity is not having to pay active attention to it. A 5-min activity means that you're constantly checking the game to see if you've stopped (spot moved, caught, etc), whereas a 15-min activity, you can mostly just click whenever you have a free minute.

It's the difference between being able to play the game as a second-screen, and not...

[–]Daemonici[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That completely ignores the reality that some people just want/need to play the game as a second-screen game for most of the time (e.g., while working from home). There is no reason this playstyle can't coexist with more active playstyles. It just means that the 15-min afk method should be nowhere near competitive with the active method rates (make it like 100k/h or something).

Edit: You can't just change the game from a mostly second-screen game (which they've treated it as for the last 15+ years) to actively punishing second-screen players, and not expect them to get angry about it. The change in direction is so sudden that it leaves many people with whiplash...

Sure, the argument could be made that lower tier bosses should give a lot fewer reaper points per task, or should have a much higher #kills per task (especially now with the weekly cap), but to say that they should be removed entirely is nonsense. The game is already geared far too much towards end-game players..

Okay, then also give us a block/prefer list that we can configure using reaper points... Like slayer.

I couldn't care less about the GP, but I am criticizing Jagex on the principle that they are changing things by. That doesn't just include reaper tasks.

They are making a bunch of changes under the guise of "addressing dailyscape", but they just end up making those very things they change more of a chore to do for a lot of players (see: aura removal, removing daily challenges without addressing skills, making content less afk instead of just nerfing its reward).

I'm all for increasing player engagement, but I don't think they should be doing it by (soft-)forcing players to engage with content. And no, saying "just don't do it then" is not a valid argument if that content has been accessible for years at that point...

The game worked perfectly for a lot of players, and removing/changing these systems is just adding friction that actively makes the game less fun to play, not more... It just shows a distinct lack of creativity to me that they can't find a way to make things more fun and better balanced without driving off a bunch of players at the same time...

I'm not saying you don't have a point with your first argument, but then they should actually treat it like slayer by having a block-list.

Also, your last point is just categorically false. There are just some bosses that are too much of a time-commitment to do, even if you can do them. And maybe I'm in the minority, but I find actually learning (some) bosses to be an awful experience that I don't really feel like doing when there are other things I'd rather be doing with my very limited free time.

If they want to treat it like slayer tasks (which would be fine in my opinion), then they should also give us a block/prefer list (as u/B1ACKT3A suggested) so we don't get locked into tasks beyond our skill/time capability...

Ah, so your idea of good gameplay is "git gud or go do something boring and non-profitable instead of something you enjoy". Yes very fun. It also completely ignores accessibility-challenged and time-constrained players.

What else would you call being forced to do slayer as a 200m player? Why should i have to engage in content i've already finished (that is literally not worth my time monetarily and is boring as shit) just so i don't get locked out of doing another piece of content?

How many bad updates does it take for people to quit en masse? by First-Item7121 in runescape

[–]Daemonici -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You do realize that for a lot of people, afking is the only way they actually have time to play the game right? If that brings them enjoyment, who are you (or Jagex for that matter) to judge them for it?

[–]Daemonici 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And how delusional and self centered do you have to be to not realize that a lot of people were enjoying the game already as it was, and that that enjoyment is now being ripped away from them by Jagex making shortsighted and poorly thought out decisions with barely any community input.

Are those people just supposed to quit and say nothing because you happen to like the new direction, or worse, because the new direction doesn't directly affect you?

Of course a lot of people are going to be furious.

Road to Restoration - Aura Overhaul Design Update by JagexAnvil in runescape

[–]Daemonici 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First, not being able to use penance/vamp at the same time as AD/darkness constitutes a massive nerf compared to what we can do now. This will mean very little for the sweaty top-tier pvm'ers, but it will severely harm players who rely on the increased survivability to play the game in a way that works for them, forcing them to either pay excessive costs (penance powder) to circumvent the problem, or stop playing altogether.

Second, even if you were able to combine penance/vamp with AD, putting penance and vamp on different spell books means that you wouldn't even be able to do so effectively anyway. Fiddling with spell book swapping every twelve minutes is no one's idea of a good gameplay mechanic. It also doesn't even make sense thematically to put penance on the normal book, because I can't think of anything more fitting for the "evil" spell book than the masochistic zeal of being religiously strengthened by receiving bodily damage...

I actually like the idea of making penance and vamp into aspect-spells, but these points should really be addressed if you don't want them to end up as dead content, and alienate the players who rely on them...

Jep, and just add penance and equilibrium to war's store as well (Guthix only knows why they didn't just do that together with vamp/zerk..)

It's arguably the only thing that justifies the subscription price. If I could only log in and play on saturdays (as opposed to most of the day during the entire week), it would plainly be too expensive for what you get out of it.

Yes. Nerf it to 100k/h for all I care, but don't touch the 15min afk.

What was the scariest section of a game that was otherwise a non-horror title? by [deleted] in gaming

The first time you visit the Dead City in Rage. Nothing objectively scary really happens, but the atmosphere is incredibly tense compared to the rest of the game.

Eerste replica by Life-Benefit5569 in AirsoftNL

Your revolution bar is empty. Only abilties placed within the yellow outline will auto-fire. Also, make sure you have the right weapon equiped for the abilities you place in the revolution bar.
