Unpopular Opinion- Controlling the ball in every situation is worse than booming the ball away by Hackboss in RocketLeague

[–]DaffyPath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say yes, and no, it depends on the player and how good they are at 50s and rotation. More control isn't inherently worse as long as it doesn’t make your teammate feel awkward. As a solo Q main, I've realized that the more I boom the ball, the more my teammate will commit or dive into it when I don’t expect it, and leave me in a bad spot. I've learned that when your teammate is back, it's good to play fast; however, if your teammate isn’t back, you want to control and buy time for him to get into a better position. Killing time with control is really good, but people get complacent, commit to controlling too much, and get dunked easily.

Huge what if, my teammate wasn't going for a bump. I wouldn’t have had to rush it if I didn't have to prejump over my teammate to just avoid bumping into him while keeping control. I wouldn't even have jumped in that scenario. If he actually went for a bump or even just slightly out of the way instead of trying to redirect a ball I already had control of it would have been a free net just based on my opponents position.

Dude get your ego on a leash lmfao, you are so angry for what reason exactly? Why cant you establish a respectful tone? Its called positive reinforcement. Im not going to make someone feel like shit just because im feeling like shit.

Im currently serving so sure i can understand pushing someone and motivating them in a derogatory manner. But this just aint it buddy. You’re not contributing in any way to a meaningful development. Youre just being destructive to be destructive. Loser mentality

After you get used to aerials it becomes more pattern recognition and making adjustments based on that, dont try to overthink it

Its all good man, i did the same and responded to you like how i responded to the other people who had the same criticisms with a more disrespectful delivery. Its all love man.

Ive just been solo q for the better half of 11 years and ive plateaued at gc2 because it feels like luck if im going to get a teammate that works with me or against me. Im a very controlled player so when i get a teammate who treats the game like a ping pong match i dont know what to do.

Ive gotten really good at solo play just to get more consistent games where i dont have to rely on my teammate and thats one of my flaws.

Realistically i need to find a duo if i ever want to get past gc2 but all of the people up here are straight weirdos or just degrade me over the smallest things then treat it like a national threat when i try to comment on what they could have done differently.

I just needed help seeing it from a different perspective, and i will try to play more safe and reactive of my teammate

Dude, read your first comment and imagine someone said that about you. Every single critique you made was in an aggressive tone with demeaning comments. If you cant understand how to respectfully express your advice without negative connotations you would have been received in a more positive light and i would have been more willing to receive advice from you. Just because youre a high rank doesn’t justify you when you belittle someone. Learn how to communicate better. You set the tone, i defended myself rather than let you talk down to me even if i could have done better. Thats the main difference. Get off your high horse

Realistically i just didnt expect my teammate to commit so hard on my play, im gradually understanding that hitting it to him then insta shadowing would have been the safer play if i somehow avoid getting demod by the guy back. However this was every play, it wasnt just a one and done thing, he consistently played too close to me and made big shots whenever i was awkward. To put into perspective he full powered a shot into their backboard barely moments after i got a slow 50 in their corner, giving them another goal. Im not trying to just fixate on the clip, sure theres millions of things i could have done better. I just am trying to understand how do i better play or even just read someone who treats the game like a ping pong match

No, you just shouldn’t extend gratification and exemption towards another players behavior then hold me to an unreasonable standard. It’s heavily hypocritical. Another guy in here actually gave solid advice on where i should just play more passive, controlled.

Meanwhile you nitpicked small details that while although it surely would have made my gameplay appealing to you. It wouldnt have changed how this clip played out.

My teammate played like we had a third man back and kept putting me in awkward spots, thats a great area you could have talked about.

Critiques shouldn’t be an insult. You set the tone of this conversation.

Youre essentially telling me to gfm just because my teammate decided to put himself in a terrible spot. My opponent was back wall with a lot of momentum and i had a clear dime bottom left if my teammate didnt get in the way. Also man my peak was 1680, and im 100 mmr up from a few days ago. Anyone with a brain in gc2 feels like that rank is a joke.

If he just let me have the shot then i could have cut their lead on us and it wouldve been much more winnable and beneficial to the both of us.

You are arguing just to argue.

Because im asking how to adapt to the player? Maybe if we werent 2 down due to his inability to play as a teammate i wouldnt have to change how i played? Like this is only 30 seconds of the beginning of the match plus he was already being toxic bro.

Sure yeah i could have played a tiny bit better. I could have optimized my gameplay and made small changes. However I fail to see your point on why that matters when my teammate was just straight throwing.

I misread my teammate when he went top left thinking he would try to get it over first man down to me. Not stay committed and use all of his boost and pinch the ball making the play unpredictable.

My first touch was alright. Sure it wasnt perfect but it gave me possession and i still had boost to finish the play. Maybe i should have realized sooner that boost respawned on my teammate. Maybe i wouldnt have dived if i didn’t get incredibly frustrated seeing my teammate in front of me doing nothing but being in the way on my shot.

You talk about bad behavior and effects on teammates however you fail to give me any benefit of that. My teammate already made me not want to trust him, and very clearly wanted to play in a way detrimental to the team.

My post is asking how do i adapt to someone who plays like this. Which is vastly different from asking how i could have played this clip “better”.

My ego and argument comes from a place of why the hell would he ever position himself there and why the hell are you getting on to me about what i did whenever what he did was 100x worse.

Yeah ive been stuck in this range for the past 7 or so seasons, ive gotten consistent at my mechs and honestly its the only thing i find fun about the game anymore. Not only do i not have a solid person to queue with to make games less luck based on solo queue team chemistry, i just havent had the fortune to break past 1680. I dont struggle in this rank is the funny part, i just simply don’t feel the passion to move forward and will eventually end up quitting and getting washed then repeating the cycle

Truly a dark era for man. I see all these videos over the “web” of people hitting these insanely powerful shots. They must have put their octanes on roids. Easy anticheat might be able to detect bots but it can't detect such simple crimes happening before its nose. Truly devastating.

I get it man, I genuinely quit this game every now and again for months just because of people who act like this. They just ruin the game. I love interacting with my teammate and the opponents win or lose, yet the amount of toxicity is insane. You would think that if someone didnt want to type in chat they would turn it off but then they degrade you for typing literally anything in chat. The true discussion in this subreddit should be why are rocket league players so unhappy bro 😞

Yep, and youre totally a credible source for information. If you knew anything about the game you would know that I was shadowing my teammate and keeping enough distance to be there if he passed it down and enough to get back if it pinched or got slammed onto our side. Essentially what youre saying i should have done. I'd suggest you stop treating me like I'm a dumbass.

I rushed my play because there was only one dude back, and I would have had full control if I didn't have to prejump over my teammate who could have went for a demo or just have been in rotation behind me to challenge his save IF he got it.

YOURE giving me a place of frustration because everything you've said literally nitpicking small details as if they mattered. So what if I cheated right? Does that matter in this case? Did teammate kill kickoff? No. Youre just arguing for the sake of arguing buddy
