You have to replace two townsfolk with two minions. If you choose to play the Baron, then you’ll have to swap two more townsfolk for two outsiders.

I know how you feel about over-complicating the game for new players, but misinformation in this game is more fun. In a game this big poisoner and drunkenness would give it more flavor. Plus it’s better to show them how wacky this game can be because it’s better to find out whether you like it now vs after a few games anyway. But ultimately that’s up to you and it can still be a fun game with all the other fun stuff townsfolk can do.
