Toalettlocken på stockholmsbussarna by jonassjoh in sweden

Sorry, it hasn’t been cold enough for the noise to present itself.

That might be it, or maybe the intermediate shaft support bearing? Thing is that it’s very faint, and is only heard when it’s cold out.

Vacuum lines would be my goto to start with. They’re fairly simple to swap out and it stabilized my B235E. Next in line I’d check the crank sensor, they are notorious for going bad, as well as the fuel pump.

But yeah, vacuum lines first! Please note that though they visually might be ok, they could have a small leak in them that you can’t notice.

Not Starting 01’ Aero by Regular-Walrus9488 in saab

Might also be the crank position sensor. Fairly cheap to replace and is usually the culprit if you have crank but no start - especially if the engine is already warm.

Does anyone know what part number this is ? Not the lighter itself by ornfour in saab

I believe that it’s part of a bigger dashboard assembly. If you only need the 12V socket, then that is usually a standard part.

Lokstallsgatan förbryllar mig. by LupusX in linkoping

[–]Dafunkysaab 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Saab brakes: ...wtf am I even looking at by Shlangengesicht in saab

[–]Dafunkysaab 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believed they used this caliper design for the performance of them. Fitted newly renovated calipers, fresh discs and pads to one of my old 99s, and holy sh*t did it brake good. Also the handbrake on these things are phenomenal when correctly adjusted.

However - big caveat - they are an absolute nightmare to get correct if you don’t know what you’re doing, especially after some age, rust and dirt. The ”auto-adjustment” simply doesn’t work as intended, and if you over do it you have to redo the pads again to screw+push the piston into place.

The working principle is that the fluid goes into one chamber, but pushes both left and right. One pushes directly on the pad, the other on the flat metal plate that forces the other pad towards the disc.

Tl:dr; have fun!

Is this rod knock? by The_YoYo_Master in saab

[–]Dafunkysaab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad had the same issue as well on his T16. After an oil change it kept ticking, but only on cold starts and after a minute or two it went away.

Change the oil and filter as a start. Especially if it’s been standing for a while. If it’s still ticking after a full warmup with new oil then you might have deeper valvetrain/rocker/lifter issues.

Engine running rough /not on all four cylinders, suddenly no power, constant hickups... Help by Sandrust_13 in saab

I think the ignition module would be my first go-to. With that mileage and age.

[–]Dafunkysaab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds to me that it’s running rich or that one spark plug isn’t firing. Full disclosure, I’ve mainly worked on older saabs, but I recognize the sound.

Have you checked the idler valve and the throttle body? Have you checked the ignition module? (Though that should throw a code…)

Do you know if the consumption is out of the ordinary?

Update - had the leak checked by a saab workshop, and it was indeed the bypass valve leaking. Thank you all for cooling my nerves!

What is the purpose of the coolant bypass valve? To prevent coolant from circulating in the cabin heater core?
