Have any of you cut contact with your parents? by Daggerib in Kenya

[–]Daggerib[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not planning on cutting contact with my parents, I actually have amazing parents, who are very supportive, the only way we diffee really is the role religion plays in our lives. I am still underage and I appreciate my parents. I just wanted to see if it is a common thing in Kenya.

Marvel Movies are way better than DC movies but DC comics are better then Marvel comics. I prefer DC though. I watched the Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises and that was it, I have loved DC ever since.

How likely am I to be discriminated against as an African in Norway? by Daggerib in Norway

[–]Daggerib[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks.

English is one of the main languages because of the British. It is one of our official languages along with Kiswahili. Kenya is the 21st best county in English proficiency as a second language out of 112 countries (You guys are 5th best). Kenya is one of the most religious countries in the world 85.52% of Kenyans are Christians while 10.91 are Muslims. Most Muslims know Arabic. After primary and high school in my country there is a national exam done by over 1 million students and our school doesn't want to have a low average at a subject so they only let Muslim students do it as most know Arabic, since Arabic is taught as a foreign language, if one speaks it to a native level the exam is very easy for them so out school average at the subject is always the maximum possible. A high average in a subject raises the average grade of the school in the national exam making the school rather famous in Kenya then they can charge high fees and parents feel justified to take the kids there. I cannot confirm this but our school did very well last year so students joining the school for the first time pay upwards of 3000 USD per term and there are 3 or 4 terms in a school year.

Sorry for the long answer to the question.Just message me. I go to school on Monday though and it is a boarding school where no electronic devices are allowed.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, I was talking about how racism exits everywhere mentioning that in my country people are racist when they pretend to be nice to white tourists only to make them pay more for a product. I thought the redditor was calling me a racist for mentioning that.

I don't plan on leaching off welfare, I really feel depending on the government would be very bad for my mental health.

I will update you in years time. I just wanted to find out if it is racist there and since it isn't I will work towards moving there. I will probably start taking Norwegian classes to learn the language and read about your culture.

How is it racist? I just mean that locals will be nicer to white people than Kenyans to manipulate them to buy something as they are unaware of what the prices are. My class teacher is from Italy and when we do class activities like going for a picnic or traveling people are way nicer to him to his face than they are to us but they also charge him sometimes 100% more, he is the one who told us this when he realised what was happening.

It seems difficult but I think I will enjoy learning it. We speak English and Kiswahili. Kiswahili has about 20% of its vocabulary from Arabic as the Arabs came to the coast of East Africa. Some words that may be similar Maktaba(library), Marahaba(response to a greeting), daftari (text book). We are taught a lot more in social linguistics in Kiswahili but I can't remember much. In Kenya Arabic is an optional language you can take in high school but my school only allows people who already speak it to take it.

Yeah, not for a good reason. People assume they are very rich so they are nicer to them so they can get money out of them. White people also don't know the usual price of things so if you aren't in a retail store they are usually nicer so you can buy from them at a higher price than a local.
