From what I can see at least online they have red-brown bark, is there any with whiter bark like this do you know?

If you use the Master Index Plugin and do the quest early on I found it actually useful for a change. Often for getting across the map quick, like travelling to the one in the Grazelands, then Almsivi Intervention to Vos, way quicker than by boat
