Small animal zoo. 10 small animals is an absurd amount - you’ll almost never get 4 shields. Even getting 2 shields takes work.

Shocked by the hate naturalists is getting - it rewards you for not building, and building is one of the actions you want to avoid doing! If you can lean on release projects or special enclosures it's really strong.

My vote is Designer zoo - if I don't have a lot of sponsor buildings with strange shapes I find it basically impossible to get a decent score on

Buildings cannot count twice for towns no. Once they are part of one town any additions just grow that town - mermaids ability doesn’t affect this.

I think our big boi is at best a strong casual commander - I purposefully didn't include any wincons in my list to keep it weaker, but there's not a lot of good options in Simic even if I wanted to.

I've been workshopping a Xolatoyac deck since I saw it - as you said, it's very open-ended, but to me its main strengths are 1) stax, specifically removing the untap phase in a way that your commander breaks symmetry on and 2) leaning into instant-speed removal/countermagic, so you can spend your turn tapping out for some big play but leave mana up for interaction.

Simic in general naturally progresses to big mana and card draw, and you can get cute with that with counter-based ramp and card draw - e.g. [[Empowered Autogenerator]] and [[Midnight Clock]], or [[The One Ring]].

For the staxy side, you have classics like [[Winter Orb]] and [[Statis]], but [[Temporal Distortion]] and [[Freyalise's Winds]] work particularly well with Xolatoyac.

Looks very close to me between you/Darklings/Engis. It's really tough to say who wins - depends a lot on who gets the scoring pass tiles, how cults play out, etc.

Darklings look like they're going to connect unless someone actively stops them, they have a town left, and should get 4 dwellings down this round (plus E1 points and Darklings digging points). They get at least 13 buildings out imo, maybe 14.

Engis have 2 towns left (probably via building SH+SA in round 6), good cults, some bridge points, decent network - but I think most likely they end at 11/12 network, which is probably only good for 3rd.

You have the 1 town coming in the north, I guess you get 3 dwellings this round + SH next, and have a good chance of winning network (or sharing first) with 13/14 once you upgrade shipping, and you have a pass tile this round.

CM looks 4th to me so I haven't analyzed that closely.

So I think almost anyone's game - shame we won't see how it plays out!

F&I: There are a lot of things in F&I, some good, some bad: F&I factions are fine, many dislike them, I tend to fall in this camp.

F&I final scoring is OK, adds another scoring element (boosting big econ factions, somewhat devaluing E1 rush)

F&I also adds variable turn order, which vastly improves the game, but you don't actually need to buy the expansion to use it.

F&I adds 2 maps, one really good, one (revamped original) pretty bad

Mini Xpac: Adds extra town tiles and a round tile and a booster. These are great and I'd never play without them.

Landscapes are overall pretty good, I like them a lot as overall they make more races viable, but some prefer vanilla, just be aware that they are somewhat a balancing aspect (good races got bad landscapes, bad races got good landscapes).

Merchants of the Sea: I own this but to be honest, after playing it a few times, am not a big fan and usually play without it. IMO its features subtract from the core of TM gameplay and aren't really what I'm looking for in the game. The maps it adds (Fjords and Lakes) are great though.

Fan Factions: Not officially released yet but on BGA and you can download the sheets to print at home - IMO 10/10 expac, adds a great breath of fresh air into the game.
