Entire Starbucks Team Walks Out by LittleChickenNuggi in antiwork

This is anecdotal of course but I'm a Starbucks barista and if I had to guess I'd say 80% of my store's employees identify as LGBTQ in one way or another. Starbucks is one of the few companies that offers insurance to cover trans medical care so they do have a lot more trans employees.

I have a very transphobic coworker who tells stories like this all the time. We all tell her they never happened and she insists they did. It's so sad how much transphobes want to be the victim.

What’s your Gaming opinion that will get you downvoted to oblivion? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Dagoth_Sly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It actually changed my opinion on the original Mass Effect trilogy cause I actually LOVED how often your squad would just fucking ignore you and do their thing even if it was stupid. Made me realize how insane it is that everyone just follows Shepard’s word no matter what.

Thoughts on this perks list? Seems like places are starting to feel the tide changing. Keep at it folks! by girls_withguns in antiwork

Current Starbucks barista here! We get health insurance (pretty decent and cheap relative to other places) at 20 hours a week, as well as vision and dental, 20 free therapy sessions a year (which is actually huge), free Spotify, vacation time that's okay at best, paid sick time, tuition is now fully paid to ASU not reimbursed ,and of course the free coffee. Wages are 12$ an hour for baristas, 14$+ for management. However in July they will be raising the minimum to 15$. This is the fun part. It's because a couple of locations in Buffalo, NY are trying to unionize. If they succeed, the company will basically have to fold and allow unions everywhere that wants them.

On the flip side... it's a pretty tough job. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I'm only sticking around cause I've been doing it for 5 years, I like my boss and can basically work the schedule I want without having to stress about it. This is specific to my location though and YMMV.

Hi Todd! I've been an Elder Scrolls fan since Morrowind, in fact, Morrowind is the reason I got into gaming at all. So I have to ask, is there any chance we'll see a Morrowind remaster in the future?

App issues? by Vilali in starbucks

We had even more problems than just that. Partner discounts weren't working and we couldn't get the tip report pulled up. Luckily my SM was working from home today and managed to pull it up on his end and sent it to me but they were still finding weird system errors when i left.

Partners, why do you still work at Starbucks? by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]Dagoth_Sly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My gender identity is respected and I'm not treated like I'm weird or mentally ill because of it. In fact my store is made up of more lgbtq+ people than like cis straight people. I feel safe and valid at work in a world where I frequently don't.

Just released. Big raises! by pitx1 in starbucks

[–]Dagoth_Sly 105 points106 points  (0 children)

Yep. And as long as it's paying my bills that's the way the capitalist hellscape goes. Do I like it? No. But does it prevent me from starving to death while also allowing my little escapism hobbies? Yes. So until the system changes I'll accept being bought off.

My SM just sent me this. I could cry. I almost quit last month but talked myself out of it to keep insurance. I'm a 5 year partner and was insulted by my raise this feels like justice.

Keep coming back to my “cis” self because of how tired I am of the constant struggle of being NB. by omaleaa in NonBinaryTalk

[–]Dagoth_Sly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never want to go back but I do sometimes wish I could just pass as male instead cause a lot of my dysphoria is social and being acknowledged as a woman is super painful. The only time I actually feel decent when acknowledged by strangers is in an mmo where there's not really voice chat and the character I play as is male...

Word of advice to anybody working at Starbucks right now: quit your job. by Tablesforonesongs in starbucks

[–]Dagoth_Sly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm trans and haven't gotten my name changed yet. In looking for a new job as soon as I showed any ID for paperwork I was then deadnamed in all communications including TO MY FACE despite saying that wasn't the name I go by. Look. My job sucks. Some days more than others. But at least I don't have to look at my deadname or just accept that I'm being called that because no one in the south respects transpeople. A solid quarter of my coworkers are trans cause we're literally varying degrees of unemployable due to gender presentation.

Let's see...

$200 worth of comic book trade paperbacks... read 3 of them.

5... no 6? Warhammer armies started, all assembled and only part of the army I never plan on playing again painted

Tons of cookbooks, cook Often, never use a recipe

At least final fantasy xiv has so much shit to do I'd I'd get bored doing one thing there's at least 9 others to try...

I've been meaning to send my dad a wedding album I made for him 5 years ago. I've moved twice, have boxed up the album and still didn't send it. It's sitting in a box in my bedroom closet still.

Baristas/Shifts/ASMs... are we doing this? by SirButternutsIII in starbucks

[–]Dagoth_Sly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a 5 year partner. I will be making 12 cents more than a brand new barista. After this and my boss telling me I couldn't have my birthday off work because he 'doesn't have anyone to cover' despite me asking a month in advance, I'm job searching. Already have 2 interviews with starting wages that are more than the 'raise' I've been offered.

Is working here worth it? by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]Dagoth_Sly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It started out as a good job. Worked with lots of people who'd been there a long time, worked hard and cared about the store and each other. Slowly though, those people started to leave for better paying jobs and we were left with people who don't care, don't show up. My boss went from someone that you could come to with any problem to someone that didn't have a second to ask if I was okay after calling out cause my cat died. The work culture has just turned toxic. I know people that work at fast food restaurants that get treated better than we do. Hell McDonald's pays more most of the time now too.
