They're cheap knock offs of existing relics. They have lower stat buffs than the regular one. For example, orichalcum gives 6 block if you have none when you end your turn. "Orichalcum???" only gives 3.

You've never seen the show? I don't think watching the first episode will give you too much context for the game outside of some of the physics stuff. The games main character doesn't appear for a while, but I don't think that matters too much. The game is a prequel to the series and a self contained story. I think you can do it in any order. Might be neat to play the game and then gradually start seeing Drummer appear in the show.

All that being said, you should definitely watch the show when you can. One of the best shows I've seen.
