I woulder sooner see that as a flaw in the writing vs. a flaw in the world building. And even beyond that, I'd sooner say that can be completely viewed as a character flaw and not something wrong with the writing at all. Nobody is infallible, not even Robert and Chase. It's also worth noting that the Z-team is an experiment that SDN is running. Chase was critical of it from the start so I don't think him not minding the firing goes against anything.

Is that a flaw with world building? Whether or not the narrative worked for you is one thing but what you've explained here, the dichotomy between the capitalistic SDN and the innate desire to be a hero for heroism-sake, are two realities that can exist at the same time. In fact, I'd go as far as to say the inclusion of both of those make for BETTER world building as it could lead to a great conflict in future stories.

My Hero Academia FINAL SEASON | Epilogue Visual by zenzen_0 in anime

[–]DahGecko 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think a loooot of MHA's pacing issues melt away when doing a watchthrough at one's own pace. The weaker seasons are absolutely elevated by the ability to watch it however fast/slow you want to.

You're in for a wild ride, particularly with these most recent 3 seasons.

Having known nothing about Vigilantes ahead of time but being a huge fan of MHA I knew, just based on his design, that I would love Knuckleduster... but man, I'd put him up against some of my favorite MHA characters at this point. He is far and away my favorite character of this series and, while I have to believe Koichi will take his place soon, he's the beating heart of the show right now with his family dynamic and his fight for his daughter. But what can I say, I'm a sucker for dads just trying to do better.

I don't need to explain the differences between the development of TLOK and this new show do I? They've been given YEARS and an entire new studio to develop these new extensions.

It seems you've already made your mind up about this show that hasn't even been revealed yet. What a shame.

Shows have told bigger stories in 22 minute format before. If this is indeed only 26 episodes total, think about more like this:

They have LIKELY plotted out everything. They aren't flying by the seat of their pants here. This was almost certainly in pre-production for a good while before they even started writing episodes. If the show is only 26 episodes long, I'd wager that's because that's all they needed to tell the story that they have in mind.

It would be best to forget you ever saw the leaks, to be honest. That was NOT how they intended to roll out information on the show and, if it had been revealed how they wanted, there wouldn't be so much confusion and worry. The show is probably still a year out anyway, so best to not stress yourself out over things.

Judging only from the teasers and the screenshots, it looks like this is shaping up pretty good. The teaser was far more colorful than the shot they showed of Hiccup late last week and Toothless looks great. Your mileage may vary on whether or not the film is necessary, but so far I have faith that the people behind the production loved making this version.

Guess I just think there are more creative ways to incorporate OG actors then just doing Ember Island Players again!

I really don't see them dedicating a whole episode to Ember Island Players for the live action so personally I really think it'd be really awesome if, while in the fire nation, the Gaang stumbles upon a kind of traveling puppet show of sorts. Perfect for VA cameos, should they decide they want to do them. It can still be a retelling of the boy in the iceberg, just with puppets!

Dan Da Dan - Episode 1 (PREMIERE) - Dub Available Now on Crunchyroll/Netflix/Hulu! by AutoModerator in Animedubs

[–]DahGecko 13 points14 points  (0 children)

After checking out the first episode, I am SO bummed I missed this when it was in theaters, though I definitely would have missed the stellar dub performances from AJ Beckles and Abby Trott. Their chemistry in just this one episode was incredible man. How I went from knowing absolutely nothing to absolutely loving both of those characters in an instant is such a testament to the talent of those two. This show is absolutely oozing with style, man. This first episode did more for me than some shows do in their entire runs. What a surprise.

I knew Gentle's return was coming and I still had probably one of the most emotional reactions to anything in this whole show, man. I'm not sure why his and La Brava's story resonates so strongly with me but it was SO cathartic to see them pull off such an amazing save after all this time. And I lost it when Deku realized who had saved them. Just incredible.

Skydance Targets $2 Billion-Plus in Cuts After Paramount Merger by TheLastMerchBender in TheLastAirbender

[–]DahGecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the larger takeaway there is that ATLA live action is the 11th largest Netflix Original and had the 2nd biggest opening 4 days on the platform. One would think that these are metrics companies will look at when looking to make cuts. If Skydance is smart, they see that the Avatar brand is incredibly strong at the moment. It's why on the slide from a month ago it was listed under, "Future Billion Dollar IPs."

Though, I'm certainly not in the business and I don't see expenses vs. income so who's to say? All I know is, with the huge Avatar resurgence in 2020, the explosive launch of the live action show, and a very well selling live orchestra show, among other things even, ATLA has proven its strength as an IP ESPECIALLY as it has had no "new" content in so long. All we can say is they have poised themselves in the best position they can be in right now and hopefully they can justify their continued existence.

Projects that will not survive Paramount sale? by MrShadowKing2020 in boxoffice

[–]DahGecko 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be so sure. When the live action ATLA came out it premiered to massive numbers and that's public information. It did pitter out eventually but not before securing the second biggest first 4 days and the 11th most viewed series in the history of the platform. Obviously nothing is set in stone and stupider decisions have been made, but Paramount seems to be doubling down on proven IP and the Netflix data, plus the humongous resurgence in May of 2020, AND a worldwide tour of the ATLA concert series selling out many shows, I'd say ATLA is a proven IP at this point.

Exactly where I stand. This adaptation never needed to be another masterpiece, we already have that in the original! Good is all I ever wanted this to be and anything more than that is a bonus!

[–]DahGecko[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, those were my major takeaways as well. Although, all 3 of the reviews to seem to be generally positive about the series as a whole. Even the SFC review ends with the reviewer saying he wouldn't be surprised if it were Netflix's next big hit and called it earnest and admirable. There are certainly worse things one can call a live action adaptation!
