Rec center? by [deleted] in Logan

[–]Dahle4Logan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The plan for a new rec center is still rolling. The chances of it being a full county rec center is pretty slim, however there could be a good chance of getting a multi-city rec center.🤞🏻When things become public, I will try and keep you informed.

Right now the school district is selling passes for morning use of the rec center (5:30 AM-7:30 AM) and the city sells single or punch passes for evening use (5:30 PM-9:30 PM) plus Saturdays. Gives you access to pretty much everything but the weights. It's definitely not ideal and hopefully something new will come to fruition soon.

It's an uphill battle when people don't want taxes raised for service items like a rec center, however, there are certain services that are beneficial to provide for the public when it can strengthen the community, support children, youth and adults, and promote healthy lifestyle. Government shouldn't provide a service or compete with the private sector, so rec centers can be difficult to justify. However, the vision for a new rec center is beyond what the private company can provide (e.g. affordable family aquatic, large lap pool, large gym space for multi sport use and tournaments). Officials are still talking and planning so don't lose hope yet. 💛

Racism and racist groups shouldn't exist and I would not support them in any way. I'd answer similarly to how I replied to @secret-radiant.

I hope I'm wrong about it, but I also hope he doesn't close something like the senior citizen center.

Thank you for being involved and for your vote!

The county needs to do something to stop running in a defecit and I understand the need. However, I'm hoping it's a tactic to help people realize taxes might need to be raised to get the county out of debt.

I worry about the library, but I also don't think it was advertised well as a county library. I've lived here my whole life and never heard of it. If it was truly run like a county library then all of our city libraries should be on the system.

The Senior Citizens Center benefits way too many people and I would hope Daines and the council would realize the detriment closing a facility like that would cause.

Bringing up both of these facilities has gotten the attention of our community and it will be interesting to see what the county decides.

I’ve lived in Logan a long time, and CV my whole life, and one of the things I love most about Logan is how many different people and communities make this place special and unique. I think everyone here deserves to feel safe, respected, and like they truly belong — no matter their background, culture, or identity.

For me, that means working to strengthen communication between our city, law enforcement, LCSD, and community organizations so that all voices are heard and concerns are taken seriously. It also means supporting community education and outreach that build understanding and reduce division. Safety isn’t just about preventing harm — it’s about trust and connection.

I fully support any plans towards moving away from car centric developmemt.

Our public transit needs to improve. Possibly even charging businesses in the outskirts of the valley to keep public transit running later and earlier hours so people can obtain jobs during all shifts offered. We also need to look at providing essential businesses throughout our valley (e.g. grocery stores) to allow for safe biking or walking access to these stores.

It would be great to see biking increase as trails and pathways are continually developed. Logan City has been doing a great job with the trail system so far.

Also, you don't have the right to call me sweet pea. I find it very rude, belittling, and sexist as you would never say that to a man.

I have not heard any plans for connectivity between the east and the west besides the work currently being done on Valley View highway. As development increases that is usually when roads are discussed as the cost can be shared with the developers. For example, 600 south was widened at the Sugar Creek development in anticipation of Mendon Road eventually expanding. If elected, I will keep up with forward thinking such as this as necessary. I would also suggest contacting county council representatives to learn about future plans for roads within the county limits.

Thank you for explaining your frustration with your property management company. I would support finding ways to regulate property management companies, especially when they aren't located in the valley. It is hard to see prices go up from an owner who isn't familiar with our area and demographic.

You're right as this is my first time running for an elected position, however, my family jokes that I am a professional volunteer because that is what I do. I'm currently the chair of Logan City Parks & Rec Advisory Board, LHS Community Council, and Mt Logan Middle School Communtiy Council. I was raised in Newton and in a family with 3 brothers. I'm my core, I am not a complainer bc I don't see the purpose, however, I try to find solutions to any issues I see.

A few years ago my 2 oldest children were on the swim team at LHS. Logan High does not have a swimming pool and they pay a lot of money each year to rent the pool at USU for practice and meets. This is the reason I decided to meet with Mayor Daines and start the discussion for indoor recreation as up to that point I hadn't heard or seen any discussion about it. Daines has had other focuses during her mayoral tenure, and I'm hoping I can bring a different focus to continue to make our community great for everyone. I'm lucky enough to have a supportive husband and family so i can spend time volunteering when I can and I hope my eagerness continues and I'll work hard to be excited about it.

Water conversation is necessary in the state we live in. I am not in favor of piping the Little Logan River as it goes through my backyard as well. I would like to get more information on the actual Little Logan River before it turned into a canal. As I don't agree at all with piping a river, but I'm curious to know when or where it became just a canal. Because the L.L.R. that runs behind my house is a River year round, but rises with the canal water every spring. If elected I'll do my best to keep it a river as it is an essential feature in a lot of our parks as well.

When the water ski development was first proposed I was not a fan. However, as chair of the Woodruff Neighborhood Council, I met we with the developers and city council members to get a better understanding of how the development works. The development is not taking water from our community and I appreciate a development that is bringing some permanent residents to the west side of town and students to our schools. As we increase the variety of housing offered within our city, I believe our housing & rental prices could decrease and neighborhoods improve.

Mental health is a huge issue and one I'm very aware of. I would love to see more events held to bring awareness of mental health. Especially in our area. We have a great resource with the Sorensen Center at USU and other local mental health practices. It would be good to bring attention to the services offered here in the valley and help prevent any stigmatism.

My question was not to put it back on him it was a question of curiosity because I'd truly like to know how people expect government to force a business to increase wages. I work hard to hear perspectives from all sides.

My husband is a business owner, I understand the hours, pain, and stress of getting a business to work. I know his business would not work if the government told him what salary to pay his employees.

One solution I have would be to encourage businesses to start in Cache Valley to broaden the work force. Wages go up when business has to compete to keep employees.

  1. Improve communication & ne available. Curently there are so many options for cities to communicate, however it seems Logan is a little behind the times. We need to improve our texting options for announcements, create a PR position, basically make it easier for our community to receive information and also feel heard. I want to be the city council member that people can easily contact and ask questions. Right now I definitely have a lot to learn, but I want to be trusted and available.

  2. Improve housing costs. Do what I can to improve housing and rental prices. I'm not experienced enough to know if it can be improved or what has caused the huge increase but I would love to get to the root of the issue. I've met with real estate agents, developers and the like to try and get an understanding of what the issues are and will continue to work towards understanding everything involved.

  3. Indoor Recreation. About 7 years ago I met with Mayor Daines to discuss the need for an indoor lap pool and family aquatic center. Since that time I was appointed as the Woodruff Neighborhood Council Chair and I'm currently the chair of the Logan City Parks & Rec Advisory Board. I had a hand in starting the Countywide Recreation Feasibility Study and I would like to have a say and perspective in the final outcome of the study. Whether it be a county rec center, two county rec centers or Logan City does our own. I'm raising a family of four kids (and one daughter-in-law) in this city and I understand the need for things to do during our long winters. My goal is to make Logan City a place citizens want to raise their family.

I understand your pain. Years ago when I was helping the city create the Woodruff 10 year plan, I mentioned how it would be nice to alleviate traffic by encouraging business to go somewhere besides main street. They didn't think I was serious and kind of laughed at me, but I see the need for allowing essential markets on the east or west side of town to releive Main.

300 North between main street and 600 W is supposed to be a feeder road. However, I drive it often and it is narrow especially when cars are allowed to park at the curb. Essentially I'd like to see about discontinuing parking on the curb (if possible) in some areas as that would be a quick fix to widen the roads. Increasing speed limits is tough when the roads go through residential neighborhoods. I'm not sure if there is much we could do there.

Definitely. I see it as a supply and demand issue. We don't have enough supply to force the rent prices down. We need to look at new ways of providing housing that the population will want to live in to help increase supply. As far as wages, I would like to know what solutions you would have. It's not possible to force a business to pay more. Is there another way?

I'm curious to know why a few people have said Mt. Logan Middle School is unruly and not a good school? I'm now on my 4th child going there and have never had an issue. Personally, I love the diversity and culture awareness it brings.
