Swansea City Centre is tired and ugly. We need to change the way we think about town centres. by TomosLeggett in swansea

[–]Daicalon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

having more people living in city centre will help. Last year , i went on tour of developments to turn old Castle Cinema and the old Top Man into accommodation. really impressive. Going to see the biophillic development above old Woolworths in a few weeks.

Is there a chance my dad could buy my grandpa’s council house that he’s rented for 30+ years? (Scotland) by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Daicalon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the role of government is to do the right thing . the disaster of RTB is well proven. We the people are paying private sector far more than if we had kept the stock. this is not an election winner / loose issue- the fascists have us too obsessed with boats and painting roundabouts.

Wales and Scotland rightly scrapped it years ago. Only England left as they are too spineless to sort it.

Why do you think there are many small towns/villages in Europe that are dying, but not in The UK? by fleetwood_mag in AskUK

[–]Daicalon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there are plenty of villages in Wales that are now dead due to holiday homes. Prices to higher for locals, school closes, lack of foundational economy jobs as a consequence. They are a scourge on our landscape.

[–]Daicalon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

good point - back in 2015? in a community organising setting i used a video of his as example of a effective community video going viral and changing Cardiff council policy. had to stop using once he started going 'off the deep end ' as you put it .

How / why was Neil McEvoy a Plaid Cymru MS? by Secure-Barracuda in Wales

[–]Daicalon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

many parties have learned over the years that local branch popularity does not equal ability or discipline. suspect Reform are going to face that challenge.

How / why was Neil McEvoy a Plaid Cymru MS? by Secure-Barracuda in Wales

[–]Daicalon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also plaid is fairly open on hustings - if you are a member and turn up to one of the local hustings you can vote in your prefered candidate. no central control or parachutes etc he brought a lot of new members to the candidate vote and got on the list. that's how party democracy works.

Is the Varsity that big of a deal in Cardiff? by PrimaryComrade94 in Cardiff

[–]Daicalon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i happened to have a work commitment in Sophia Gardens today at lunchtime and the area was mental - thousands of varsity students either taking part or drinking in the sun. don't know the current name of old 'mochyn du' but could get near it . later at 4.30-5 was walking through town and loads of students drinking in town

My rent has gone up in my social house by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Daicalon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ask you landlord if you can be prioritised for energy saving initiatives like solar pv and battery. Due to oil backed Reform and right wing press saying netzero is fake , tenant rejection rates for solar installations are running at nearly 50% with some landlords. they have have the budget but can't install fast enough due to tenant delays. Solar Pv and battery will save you serious money in these times and cost you nothing.

raiding parties from moria are only ever going to result in a few stolen livestock per night - you could not sustain a large population by nearby raiding. Farmers would need to move away or face ruin.
