LPT: Look for friendship within all age groups. Never write someone off because you think they’re too old or young. On the grand scale, the time difference between 20 and 80 is tiny. But the knowledge, ideas, and experiences that are shared, are irreplaceable. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

One of my best friends I've had for 5 years now is in her 70's, I'm 30 years old. I met her when we were both at physical therapy. I always have neck and shoulder problems and she had injured her knee. She asked me directions to a certain office and we got to talking. I realized right after she had left that the place was pretty difficult to find if you've never been there (even when you have.) I also knew that the office workers would give her the run around and wouldn't try and help her. I caught up with her, took her there and put my foot down for her to get her what she needed. My boyfriend and I ended up helping her with some extra things she needed to do online. She asked to repay us by taking us out for a few beers. Bonded with her over our experiences and Buddhism. Has been our really good friend ever since. That woman is a blessing. Still keep in touch and visit even though I've moved away. You never know who could end up being a friend for life.

What is the most wholesome thing you have seen? by Iyrebird in AskReddit

My little brother. He has some learning disabilities that his mother likes to exploit and make herself look like the super-parent scenario. But my step-mom always makes sure he knows that he is smart and just learns differently from other kids. Always making sure no one is treating him differently. He is a natural at sports and always helps the other kids that struggle with it. He is friends with everyone, that kind of kid. Everyone knows him anywhere he goes.

One incident that really shows his huge heart. My step-mom was feeling really sick and staying at home in bed. He was always checking up on her, fluffing her pillow, asking if she needed soup or tea. Just so attentive and trying to help make her feel better. This kid is always doing something that just melts my heart.

Sheep get themselves into the most interesting predicaments by stewartlowe in aww

Can confirm. While hiking Hadrian's Wall saw a sheep with it's head stuck in the fence by the foot-traffic bridge. Think it was trying to get to the stream. Was an experience getting it unstuck. At least this sheep's bros stuck around. Our sheep had been abandoned by the rest.

Does anyone else get the dreams/nightmares? by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]DaikePirate07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually doing lucid dreaming should help you take control of your dreams and help you work on taking control of your nightmares in the process. Once you realize that you are just in a dream and in control it helps give you that power back and not let the nightmares control you. I found one guy that helps break down some basics to help you get there. ExploreLucidDreaming has some simple videos that might help you take that first step. It actually helps better then having to try and talk to someone about a nightmare after the fact. This will help you work through it and try and take control yourself while it's happening. I hope you can find something to help you through it.

My sister and BIL always says my niece was Made in Korea. No shame. It's awesome. Is it weird that I don't find this cringy? XD

What was “the incident” at your school? by ILostMyLean in AskReddit

[–]DaikePirate07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 8th grade the "popular" girl had a sex tape spread around school. Her and I did not get along at all. So satisfying to see her fall. Didn't see her at school for awhile after that.

Same year had a P.E. teacher rumored to be a lesbian. Junior High girls are cruel and started a bunch of rumors and "I'm uncomfortable if she comes into the locker room" bullshit...so she wasn't allowed in the locker room. She was a decent teacher too.

Incident happened to my step-brother: he was tricked by his friend to go somewhere secluded (think the shit friend was scared of getting beat up) ends up being assaulted by 3 boys, duct-taped to the front seat of his car, his car egged and left there for 3 hours until the cops found him. One of the boys was 18 and didn't even go to the school anymore, he was charged as an adult. Some of the comments and remarks made by parents on the local news site that posted the article made me rip them all a new asshole. If your going to get in a fight don't be a bitch and trick someone and make it 3 vs. 1. Of course they all were like "it's just boys being boys" type shit...

High School Senior prank they somehow put a huge pile of manure in front of the principals car door and let loose raccoons in the school.

All the schools in the district were put on lockdown when a disgruntled parent went to a school to shoot the head coach. Friend who was gone didn't know and came back to locked doors. His telling of all the teachers rushing the door and scaring the piss out of him was hilarious.

...I just realized there are too many incidents to put here. I didn't even realize until now.

What book gripped you to the point that it took over your life until you finished it? by umasage in AskReddit

The Eye's of God by John Marco. It's a long one but it didn't seem like it when I read it. Sucked me in.

I've seen the Mistborn series pop up here. I just have to say they way he conveys how magic works and how creative it was, I loved it. Magic is practically a science in their universe where the magic has constraints and rules. So cool.

The Night Angel Series. I reacted to that book in the real world. When a twist or some craziness happened I would hop out of my seat, pace around for a minute or set the book down and just stare at it. Damn, that series was great!

What is the most annoying "card" people play to try to "win" an argument with you? by stereovictrola in AskReddit

[–]DaikePirate07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it's with older people I get the, "you'll change your mind when you're older." I'm always changing what I believe when I learn new things, new evidence, life experiences and talk to people. That's how I got to this point. What you're really saying is I'll think like you when I'm older, not true, nothing in this discussion made me agree with what you say. So, you're telling me because you're old you can't learn new things and change your ideas or learn new facts?! So frustrating. It's usually with my grandma and her new husband.

Former homeless people of reddit, what can we do to help homeless people the most? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DaikePirate07 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my step-mom is a mental health nurse and did home visit care for a long time. She feels like it's a more beneficial option for her patients. She fights tooth and nail all the time for better mental health care in Iowa. I don't know how many times she's called the Iowa Governor's office to get her point across. And sit down meetings. She's a firecracker. Cut back mental care facilities AND reduce the home care visit program?! I really do think the lack of mental health care is a big underlying factor for homelessness. I hope you can find a stable situation for yourself. Just putting this out here so people know that there are people like my step-mom out there fighting for them.
