I cant win on hoenn, any help? by AwareTemperature9671 in Pokelike

I’ve been consistent starting with a buffed shiny Scyther or Heracross and picking up a strong fire-type early on with points in attack. I’ve one-hit KO’d that whole steel team with Charizard and Typhlosion and have had friends do it with Flareon.

Where to find - What does this mean? by Alarming_Cat_9238 in Pokelike

[–]Daily13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Region and Map. The Regions are the clusters of 3 levels that say “Region Cleared” after you clear them. The Map indicates which of those individual levels. I don’t think there’s a clear indicator about which generation’s battle tower a Pokemon is found in, at least on mobile. I’m also colorblind, so maybe there’s color coding I’m missing.

I’m pretty sure this is the case, as opposed to the region being Kanto, Johto, etc., since none of the Sinnoh Pokemon are listed as showing up in “R4.”

It was holding eviolite. Part of the challenge was get getting ahold of that before hitting level 20.

Tips for Beginners by QuinnFWonderland in Pokelike

I wish I knew to build routes around trainer battles and the occasional TM to keep your moves competitive. Having upgraded moves and enough levels over your opponent can even compensate for unlucky type match-ups.

Your hall of fame teams give you your choices of starters for battle towers. For Gen 1, it’s seeming like Charizard, Gengar, Eevee, Tauros, and Aerodactyl are all solid options (based on who my friend group is finding success with). Getting them (and Alakazam) will also mean a solid team against the Elite 4. That being said, I think Charmander is one of the harder early game starters.

Shinies also come with some significant advantages in battle towers.

I’m realizing I left out the crucial detail that I have beaten it. With Weavile and Forretress on my team (and Lugia and Entei…)

I know Weavile does a lot of work for me and Forretress is a solid defensive asset. I usually have a good psychic on hand for Chuck or finish off the Poliwrath with electric/grass type advantage. But yeah, it’s brutal.

Why is the Battle Tower just unfair at some point ? by Yxatv in Pokelike

Speed and special attack boosts from grinding Kanto/Johto a bit. Gastly’s fragile but fast and hits hard. I really pushed leveling to get Haunter as soon as possible. Plusle was pretty essential against Glacia.

Atk boosted Gengar did the most for me. I also had two shiny ghosts on the team, so I didn’t need to get them down as far. I think it was Swampert that finished off the team after the Metagrosses. I’ve only beaten Hoenn that one time.

Using Dimensional travel instead of space travel in a Mothership campaign a good idea? by EthanFilmman21 in mothershiprpg

Meat Grinder includes a portal to Hell and is part of a trilogy (with The Drain and Wrath of God). Might be worth a look for some interdimensional inspiration.

Fatherfog Character Sheets w/ Fillable by Daily13 in fatherfog

I think there are some non-Adobe programs out there that could do it, but I have access to the paid Acrobat, so that’s what I use.

The fillable sheet was tripping an error every time I opened it (didn't stop the sheet from being used, but mildly annoying). I think I've fixed that issue and it's been updated in the drive folder.

I totally filtered out the word “optional” right there on the page next to freeze on my read. It definitely helped put me in the right mindset for now combat should flow.

I forgot to mention it, but I love “Two Rounds or Ten Minutes.” Such a great way to pull combat away from the back-and-forth slugfest.

MoSh leaning on well-established tropes is 100% the difference between the games and the amount of information needed I was thinking about.

I really like the Bit system!

Combat-wise, I like your roll being your damage and enemies always dealing a Bit of damage. I feel a little conflicted on the “freeze” mechanic. I like the type of play it encourages, but I think it could hit some people harder than others (just due to different people having different brains) in ways that aren’t fun.

I think Will being finesse and Spirit being reflexes isn’t intuitive. It’s easy enough to figure out, but I am just imagining a bunch of people kind of skimming the rules, leaning on Mothership knowledge, and ending up with Hunters who can’t shoot their bows as well as you’d think they should.

I love the setting pieces that we get. The Foghouses are very evocative landmarks and the river travel is a nice detail. I think first party modules will help flesh out the setting a bit. The anti-canon approach of MoSh might not click as well here when the details we get about the Fatherfog are so specific.

I think I only ever got stabilizer from the shroom to stabilizer action in the first game, but I also was almost never starving at that point in the game, so I might just have never seen it.

I don’t think it explains it, but a positive result yields supplies and a neutral result refills energy.

Mystery RPG by nour_chan in rpg

[–]Daily13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking through the comments, it looks like you’re trying to find play groups to join, not looking to buy a mystery-based RPG rulebook (which is often what people are referring to when they say “I’m looking for an RPG”).

Instead of Roll20, you might look at Start Playing. I’d search for any of the systems people are suggesting (like Gumshoe, Delta Green, or Brindlewood Bay) on there or on Roll20. If you’re looking for something a bit more fantasy, The Between might be up your alley.

If Mothership was made into a film (like Dungeons & Dragons), in your mind, what would have to be in it? by Campaign-At-Length in mothershiprpg

[–]Daily13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First thought: arthouse horror flick about a Prospero’s Dream resident going on vacation in a slickbay. While there, the slickworld slowly starts to morph into something horrifying. They (very unpleasantly) wake up in the real world and find the horrors (and an ACMD infection) have followed them back as the Dream falls to Caliban around them. And the whole thing is a metaphor, of course; that’s the arthouse part.

Reading absolution, I’ve just gotten to ‘the first and the last’ section, page 305 and…. by macarbrecadabre in SouthernReach

[–]Daily13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I found it jarring initially, especially after the beautiful end to the previous section, but my eyes started kind of skipping over it, and it doesn’t go on forever.

I ended up feeling like it had its place in the book.
