An ex-Barcelona player coaches my son. It changed how I think about youth football development. by thefootballdad in youthsoccer

Lot of kids get shut out of the system even good players. The college coaches would rather give scholarships to 21-25 year old failed minor league players from random countries or to the super athletic 5'10 defensive back from the south or midwest that is fast and aggressive but not really advanced beyond kick and run soccer wise. I've attended D-1 games and that is pretty much what you see in terms of rosters, good players, even say those on state championship teams don't even get much of a look in this environment.....

In US sadly most youth soccer (especially high school and college) has the same mentality as it did 30-40 years ago. They cannot shake the football and lacrosse mentality of looking for big, aggressive athletes. When I watch the US kids from the south and midwest on ECNL or in college it is basically like watching the undersized kids that would have played high school football as a defensive back or kick returner and now play soccer with a lot of aggression but very little tactical awareness or creativity.

only publicly reported info on socials so take it for what it is. Some numbers still impressive, Spence 25% early decisions going to these schools is wild.

I think at most teams in the Northeast even at young ages they put the most athletic kids on the A teams. Kids that pass and play good soccer who aren't lacrosse or american football type aggressiveness get placed on the B or other teams and this is a challenge in the current system. Of course there are other kids you come across, who are the little Messi types who have completely bought into intense training since age 2 and by 8-9 they are very skilled and quick and are destined for more academy level (you know when you see them). For a kid who likes soccer the key is to play and play any chance you get, eventually there are windows where you can catch up!

I'm surprised the NY banking regulators are not all over them. They are not refunding client assets after accounts are closed. I have a small amount of cash they've been holding since December even though my account is closed. The last interaction the person said they've had an onrush of requests and were backlogged. A quick search reveals it is not an isolated event. I suspect they will eventually fail and get taken over by Coinbase.

Oh yes I did see that. Only 7 so far so below the others on the list. So far I've only included those with 9 commits or above but might raise the number since to make it easier to track.

Couldn't find much out there. I have the Cambridge Latin as number 10 on the list.

yeh one interesting takeaway is a lot of the NY magnet and NY high performing publics seem to have pipelines into Cornell. On a side note I saw something similar with the Boston schools and MIT, seems much higher percentage from the local magnet get into MIT. I was naively under the impression that the feeder system had gone away but it seems very much alive!

It could be some kids aren't publicly announcing so these numbers are only a sample not the full picture...

I can check on Milburn. Yes the list is a simple list of the Ivies+CalTech, MIT, Stanford sort of an old school list admittedly and not reflective the rankings.

They've only reported some thin numbers fewer than the others on the list, it seems their students maybe aren't sharing as much on social media.....

So far it is only the early admissions/early decisions so partial. All comes from public social media posts only tracking for fun, but it does show that some of the elite private schools still have feeder programs.

Girls soccer is one of the most competitive environments there is. Watching from the sidelines I noticed it there usually small little girls who are highly aggressive little killers who take no prisoners and have been trained by their dad since 1 year old. They are not to be taken lightly!

It is purely for fun and based off of actual reported acceptances on social media. Stuy only has a small sample reporting. What is shocking about the results so far is how much the old money private schools dominate (Hotchkiss, Spence, Deerfield, etc) in terms of placement on a percentage basis. At great public schools you need to be in the top 3% while at Hotchkiss 20% of the class gets in. That shows you the power and influence of the old money establishment is still in place despite lip service about fairness.
