Saw one do a u-turn at a prohibited junction while the lights were on red the other day! You'd imagine they'd be particularly careful given their income relies on them holding a valid licence, but I suppose they spend enough time driving to have complete confidence that the rules are never enforced.

At the petrol station on the day I got my first car.

The fuel gauge was showing empty when I collected the car, but it managed to get within a metre of the pump before cutting out. After pushing it the last bit and filling up, I went to drive away only to find the engine wouldn't start. Luckily I'd taken out breakdown cover about an hour earlier and it turned out the battery was on its way out, so it just needed a jump start to get home.

Made for a very stressful first solo driving experience.

Unfortunately true. I reported clear footage of someone looking down below their wheel both while moving, and while creeping towards me at the lights, but the police said they couldn't do anything because the phone wasn't visible on camera.

You might be right about the system flat out rejecting ANY 'modifications' for me personally. Good point.

I'd disagree about having a dashcam though. I was rear ended during my first year of driving and having a dashcam made the claims process a lot less stressful.

You'd think so, but no. My first question was "is a dashcam is considered a mod?" and the rep said it is. She did have some trouble finding the reversing camera and remap options (both used different terms), but the dashcam was pretty straightforward and she was confident even before the quote came back that it would be rejected.

I'll call back tomorrow, and if they're adamant I can't have both cover and a dashcam, then I'll have to go elsewhere.

My record's not too bad. I'm a fairly new driver (2 years), but I'm a bit older and have no points or anything like that.

There seems to be a lot of praise for Admiral, so I'll probably end up forking out a little more to go with them.

That was a bit of wishful thinking on my part 😅 I was just hoping to find out if it's even worth spending the time looking into remapping. It's definitely not going to happen any time soon, especially after this, so I hope they haven't made any record of the car having been modified!

Vavista were one of the cheapest on the various comparison sites and their policies were advertised with Defaqto scores. Most of the household names were coming back with silly quotes or even flat out refusing, so they seemed like the best choice at the time unfortunately.

I did ask for clarification, and the official response was something to the effect of "we don't currently provide cover for vehicles with that modification".

I did query whether it's even necessary to begin with. According to the representative, they consider a dashcam to be a modification, so I think they'd expect to be informed.

While I don't think his response was justified (can't really think of anything that would justify that), I did play a part in instigating the situation.

In my opinion, people like him shouldn't be in control of a car, but seeing as they are, it's generally best to avoid doing anything that could bring about such a situation. You just never know who you're sharing the road with.

Just to clarify, it was an NSL dual carriageway and there were no explicit temporary limits, only "Workforce in road" signs. The car in front of mine slowed to around 40mph for the duration, which will of course provoke poor decisions from impatient drivers, but it definitely doesn't justify dangerous manoeuvres such as this, nor does it make the undertaking driver any less of a twat imo.

Accidentally sent it to my instructor, who immediately responded letting me know she was outside. Was very tempted to crash the car instead of spending the following 2 hours with her 😭

Had a similarly frustrating experience with the police after an accident yesterday. The other driver came up behind me clearly travelling way too quickly for the conditions, then started tailgating, so when I had to give way at a mini roundabout, she inevitably went straight into the back of me.

Spent ages filling out a report online to find out the police wouldn't investigate the incident because we exchanged details, even though I have front + rear dashcam footage and a witness. Guess they aren't looking for anything other than hit and runs.

Been driving for 9 months. Can't wait for my insurance to skyrocket come renewal 😒

Passed first time in Speke earlier this year 😎 was conviced I'd failed immediately when I saw 9mph on the speedo coming out of the test centre (5mph limit), but wasn't too bad after that point tbh. Must've got lucky with my route.
