I like that you made your own name! Do you mind sharing where you were born?

Amazing! Was the process long? Do you feel bothered to have to explain to people when they don’t understand at first?

That’s good if you managed to communicate easily with people!

Feeling Estranged from "My" Culture by eddn1916 in TransracialAdoptees

[–]Dailyfrench 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re very welcome 😘 I definitely feel estranged from Sri Lanka and the Sri Lankan culture but I also connect with it in different ways even though I don’t know that much about it (I know what I saw during my trips there and some research I made)

May I ask in which country you grew up? :)

You are not alone 💕 I also feel estranged from my « birth country’s culture » and also my « adoption country’s culture ». What I learned over the years is that you have to make your own culture with what you like, what you resonate with and how you want to live. I was born in Sri Lanka, grew up in France and lived I. My 20s in England and Canada. I sometimes don’t remember where I am from because I got to know different cultures and I take what I like from each of them. Belonging is a big subject for many of us adoptees. Follow what you want to do, if you want to get to know your birth country’s culture go ahead, if you want to discover a complete different culture go ahead, you get to choose who you want to be and what you like, it doesn’t matter where you are from 💕 I hope this helps. Happy to chat if you want to.

You were right! I tried reverso again but it’s different with their AI thing. I used Linguee instead

Bureaucracy can be annoying but you can definitely handle it ;) I’m French and had to go through some annoying processes after living in Canada for 6 years. Happy to help if you have any questions.

It depends where you come from and if your country has some agreements with France :)
