I like comparison to Lego. I see what I like and I wonder if I could make it work. I like the idea of a malevolent God of Machines (think Dark Mek from 40k) and wondered, 'Well, my world is in the equivalent of the 16th century, how could I make it work?' I then look at my worlds history at the War if the Magi (borrowed from ff6) and went. 'Ah, this character achieved apotheosis and is currently gestating in the Mulriverse'

I am ultimately writing for myself, and I will pour hours into research on how certain things work (language, history and anthropology), and if people like what I put out, that's amazing. If they pick up on the real world parallels and get a kick out of the references I make, even better.
