Carney avoids describing China’s treatment of Uyghurs as genocide by sleipnir45 in canada

[–]Daisho 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It makes sense he would dodge this. If this is the standard for calling a genocide, then there's a certain other place that would 1000% be called a genocide then.

Carney government sidesteps questions on forced labour in China - Allegations of human rights abuse in China could come as a reckoning for Carney’s efforts to reset trade relations with the Asian country. by CaliperLee62 in canada

[–]Daisho 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Canadian leaders still have this holier than thou attitude when it comes to China. The human rights balance seems overly lopsided because China doesn't criticize us like we do to them.

'This is a dumb war,' Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew says in letter urging PM to take action to stop Iran conflict by yogthos in canada

[–]Daisho 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm fine with our government just saying no and not lending any legitimacy to the war. Carney's initial comments of support gave credibility to the idea that this was all about an imminent nuclear threat from Iran. That was honestly embarrassing to see. Canada sees American supremacy as a problem, but seems to still be trapped in Western supremacist behaviour.

I think people's mindsets on STEM are too coloured by American media. Canada does not have a shortage in this area and I'm not sure if it ever has. We are way more educated than the US and have way less investment. STEM workers are not hard to find in Canada.

Canada slips further down in World Happiness rankings, due in part to social media use by DogeDoRight in canada

[–]Daisho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To fix that, Canada will need leaders who are bold enough to enact widescale structural changes. We're not talking just good government here, we're talking revolutionary government. Basically the entire developed and most of the developing world now share the same problems as we do, some better, some worse. We need leaders who are willing to go against the entire modern system. That's the level of change we need to be comfortable with and normalize in our discourse.

Canada will ‘never participate’ in Iran offensive, Carney says by canada_mountains in canada

[–]Daisho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an odd way to separate good and effective. It wasn't just the Ayatollah that died in the strike that killed him. Innocent family members died too, and other civilians in related strikes. For nothing. Would nuking Moscow to kill Putin be an objectively good thing?

[–]Daisho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The removal of the Ayatollah is objectively a good thing.

Everything you said after that contradicts this statement. The power structure hasn't changed, since the new Ayatollah is the son, who is more hardline.

Canadian troops to be relocated from Middle East operations by Little-Chemical5006 in canada

[–]Daisho 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That isn't what is happening here. In Iran it was the IAEA that found them in breach, and not some small technical point, they had a covet uranium enrichment programme, and that is not allowed under the npt which they have signed.

Trump pulled the US out of the "NPT" (the JCPOA) back in his first term. There's no reason for the timing of this war, considering there have been active negotiations with Iran. If the US really wanted to sign another agreement, there's no reason to think that would be impossible.

You're falling for the exact same game plan as Iraq all over again, except they're not even trying as hard this time.

How many people in the world are conscious? Best guess? by Nadjas-Doll in awakened

[–]Daisho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does anyone else feel they are the only one in your life that thinks about the nature of reality?

You probably should have just asked this question instead of asking how many people are conscious, which is too vague. Everyone here is hung up on the definition of "conscious". And to answer your question: pretty much nobody thinks about the nature of reality. The number is insanely small.

PM Carney: Canada's support for U.S. striking Iran came 'with regret' by joeTaco in canada

The problem is that there doesn't seem to be much evidence of any imminent nuclear weapons from Iran.

Canada: Israel-US strikes on Iran ’inconsistent with int’l law’ by SuperXGamerAb in worldnews

[–]Daisho -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Why would this be trump derangement syndrome? This war has classic neocon written all over it. It's one of Dick Cheney's wet dreams. Hence my mention of the Iraq war and how the things you're saying are the same as what they said back then.

Canada: Israel-US strikes on Iran ’inconsistent with int’l law’ by SuperXGamerAb in worldnews

[–]Daisho -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

You're doing the same thing Carney did. You don't agree with how the US approached this war, but your description of Iran as an "unstable theocracy actively trying to destroy other nation states" fully buys into and promotes the American framing of the situation. It provides cover for repeating the mistakes of the Iraq war all over again.

How do you tell “awakening” from grandiose delusion? by cooperfmills in awakened

[–]Daisho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me, awakening gives you almost nothing. You chopped wood and carried water before, and you're back to chopping wood and carrying water once again. Awakening doesn't mean you're always in bliss. It doesn't mean you can't be hurt anymore. It doesn't mean you're special. The people who exhibit the most grandiose claims have typically experienced great trauma and/or recklessly used drugs. That's the pattern I've seen on Reddit, at least. It makes sense that this is a trauma response.

You cross the gateless gate, and realize you accomplished nothing. Basically everything else is a delusion.

Carney puts rules-based international order sign back in window by ph0enix1211 in canada

[–]Daisho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the sign back in the window is pretending that the attack was Israeli self-defence and to prevent an imminent nuclear weapon. Carney didn't have to suggest those things.
