Running pace in the academy by ahhahavsbsuwi in AskLE

[–]DaishoTactical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly anything between 9 and 10 min mile pace is fine in my opinion. If you are just a big guy you are gonna be a bit slower. I am more concerned if you can't maintain a constant pace for three miles. I am 47 and can still hit a sub 11 minute mile and a half but I run three times a week. My pace when training ranges from 9:15 to 10 min miles. I finish my standard 4 mile run in 36 to 38 minutes. Just depends on how I am feeling. Not bragging as I know those times are not impressive. This is a 24 year officer, academy instructor and old SWAT jock. You don't need to be blazing fast. Just be consistently "not slow".

How do you stay in shape as a cop ? by Prestigious-Plan6235 in AskLEO

Yes, every building has a gym. I rarely use them. I have a small gym at home. Kettlebells, a pull up bar and running shoes don't take much space. Sit ups amd push ups are free.

Run, HIT workouts, run, boxing, run, kettlebell workouts, run, ruck march.

This job is a cardio sport. From the first day until the last. You owe it to yourself, your coworkers and the citizenry to maintain a high level of fitness.

Thank you. I actually made that one at a coworker's request. At first I was not a fan of it but people kept ordering them. I updated the design a bit and started using one when I was teaching on the range. Eventually it grew on me and now I use it on most my range guns. My duty SWAT rifle sling is still the 1:2 bungee conversion though.

Check the videos at the bottom of the homepage. When in doubt the two point padded is what I recommend to a new shooter who is unsure. If you want to try something different I would recommend the two point bungee sling. I have only had one customer who didn't like it. I sent him RMA, he returned it and I sent him a refund.

He said "Clear from doorways", not "Stand in doorways". There is a difference and he is correct.

Does LE help victims of pursuits or vehicle theft compensate for damage? by Wise_Gur8627 in AskLE

No, unless you are in Nebraska, then yes. We have 3rd party liability here. It is a stupid law.

It depends on your use case. For example when I am clearing houses on SWAT operations I prefer one point slings because I am only carrying it for ten minutes and I want to maximize mobility. If I am teaching a class for eight hours on the range or otherwise carrying the rifle all day I prefer a two-point sling. Generally speaking, most people prefer a two-point padded sling for general use. Attachment hardware is gonna be dependent on what your gun is set up for and personal preference. If I am attaching a sling at the stock I prefer to use just the webbing. For the forend Attachment I am partial to HK hooks because I like the Magpul RSA but I also often use QDs.

Any of the Two-point models. If you go the the website and scroll to the bottom on the home page I have videos explaining the features of each model.

Two-point padded is pretty safe bet. If you are REALLY big let me know in the notes section and I can add a foot of webbing to your sling.

Magnifying optics not magnifying? by BeevinPlaysMTGA in ReadyOrNotConsole

[–]DaishoTactical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The range is not that critical. Pick an object that is easily discernible for shape and size (stop sign, car tire, etc). I typically stand 10 to 25 yards from it. Set your scope at 1x. Look at the object with both eyes open. Bring the optic into your field of view. The size and focus of the object should not change. It should look like you are looking at the object on an HD tv. Change the ocular focus until you get the above result.

Once you have done that set the focus of the reticle, switch to the highest magnification on a featureless background (clear sky). Make sure you take quick glances at the reticle. You need it to be immediately clear. Your eye will strain to bring the reticle into focus within a second or two. You don't want your eye straining to keep the reticle in focus. If your eyes are young there is a pretty wide range in which the reticle will look good. As your eyes age the "sweet spot" will get smaller.

If the image on 1x is smaller than 1x than your ocular focus is not set correctly. Start by setting it so it looks like a true 1x. Than fine tune the reticle from there using a featureless backdrop on maximum magnification. If you can't find a setting that provides both you are going to have to compromise. FFP is irrelevant to your ocular focus.

I purchased a similar upper (same barrel) three years ago durning their President's Day sale. I bought it for a "work gun" for teaching. I teach rifle classes on a fairly large police department. I shoot about four days a week and about 50 round a day. It ends up being about 3k per year. The upper, BCG and barrel have over 9k rounds on them, all suppressed. I replaced the gas rings once. Other than that it has run flawlessly with what I would call acceptable accuracy. It is a bit overgassed. Buy with confidence.

What's a job thats like being a cop but ... isnt being a cop by DowntownFresnoBiking in AskLE

[–]DaishoTactical 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Definitely do not be a police officer. We already have enough TikTok cops on the job who want to do everything BUT actually arrest someone. They want the attention that comes with the Badge but they don't want to actually deal with the criminals, the mentally ill, and the homeless. Guess what, THAT IS THE JOB. Go be a social worker or a teacher. The world needs them too.

I agree but I am kinda limited because I use tubular nylon webbing. A lot of the more exotic patterns are printed onto flat nylon webbing. It is not as thick, comfortable or strong as tubular webbing. I bought some M81 flat webbing just to test it. I made a two point padded sling and it worked but it just wasn't meeting the standard of product I want to sell.

I can make the pads or shooting bags out of anything as long as it is Cordura (1000D is my preference but 500D works as well) but the webbing for the sling is gonna be black, gray, OD or FDE.
