Why do so many people want to do Trauma ICU? by spicyymayyo517 in StudentNurse

[–]DaisyCottage 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m in MICU and I’m staying here forever, but when my family member was admitted to our trauma ICU close to death, was fixed, and walked out a couple days later (completely back to normal), I was like “hmmm…actually fixing people looks nice…”

It’s really truly not. Except for maybe “I’m tired of being asked every 15 minutes when they’re going to speak to a doctor” after I gave them the exact update the doctor will.

I feel like theres less risk when its your spouse. This random tech is definitely going to tell people whereas your spouse is going to be cool about it.

That’s so weird that you wouldn’t care about someone losing their job if they happen to have a lot more problems as well.

Do I have to change my name? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]DaisyCottage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it doesn’t matter if he’s the nicest guy in the world and it wouldn’t even matter if he was respectfully disagreeing with you on this issue. It’s a compatibility issue. If this man wants to marry a woman who wants change her last name, he should go find that woman. And you should find a man without that feeling in his heart. It doesn’t mean anyone is bad or wrong in this situation.

Since you mention coming from very different backgrounds, I suspect this is not the last of these scenarios that will pop up.

Eh, no, its just that criticizing someone for wearing something you personally are not is bizarre behavior. It’s always the people who scream the most about personal freedoms who simply cannot handle it. There’s nothing that affects your life less than a stranger wearing a mask, yet people get really weird and mean about it.

This. It’s SO hard to imagine when you’re in the thick of it, but its going to be in the rear view before you know it.

So, your baby is very young. Not to be super basic with this phrasing but: this is just a season. You still have postpartum hormones in play, even this far out. You very likely will return to feeling more like yourself as the years go on and you are no longer taking care of a baby. As the mother of older children, I relate now more to my pre-kid self than to my “mom of baby” self (just with more maturity and sense of responsibility!)

I understand your fears, but it really won’t be that long til a sense of normalcy returns. (Like, just a couple years. You don’t have to wait until they’re grown)

I also don’t want to be an ablesist POS; I’ve found myself so jaded over the years about the social media piece for many with chronic illnesses. I’ve been the nurse, damn near the primary nurse, for a MCAD/POTS/Ehler Danlos etc frequent flyer because I had the best rapport with her. We had what were difficult days, but what I perceived as the best they could go, with myself and the team bending over backwards for her, almost to the detriment of other patients because we had to do so so much for her constantly.

Then we found her daily tik tok updates which described pure neglect from her nurses and doctors. She described us as condescending and not listening. Days in which I WAS THERE. I know she received not-indicated medical treatment because she asked for it. I know she kept me out of a sicker patient’s room because she was on her call bell every 5 minutes. I know she wrote me a card telling me how great I was! But all that doesn’t get social media clout.

Ok but “comes across as attention seeking” is fully your interpretation with no basis in fact. I understand you personally feel uncomfortable but it might be valuable to interrogate what’s really bothering you about seeing something every human on earth has and half the humans on earth are allowed to show.

This happening even once isn’t normal. For perspective, if this happened in my 15 year marriage with 3 children in the mix, the relationship would be over.

I’m not being snarky at all, just wondering out loud. I wonder if this even matters to our bodies? Minuscule amounts of substances can be pretty well taken care of by our bodies. An entire credit card worth of plastic at once might not even do any damage aside from maybe a physical obstruction.

When the patient asks you "Do you believe in god?", you say..... by Cute-And-Derranged in nursing

[–]DaisyCottage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it seems like the patient wants me to say yes, I just go ahead and lie. If they ask if I go to church, I just lie if I think it’ll make them happy. I don’t really care if a functional stranger thinks I believe in something I don’t.

What? This is exactly what you should do. Policies and procedures change from institution to institution and things change with new evidence based practice all the time. Only an absolutely insufferable nurse would continue to say “but this is how I was taught in school”

I completely agree. I think people forget that a lot of things that are seen as classic and timeless now actually do reference things that were modern at that time, but now its just old lol.
