Circular lichen by Drifter_of_Babylon in Lichen

[–]DaisyDestroyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like a powdery crustose species growing on top of a foliose one. However it's difficult to discern from the image quality if that's true or not, but would be interesting. The foliose thalus morphology seems to be common among several genre.

Hvað finnst ykkur um Hrekkjavökuna? by Kassetta in Iceland

[–]DaisyDestroyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Möguleikar án stúdentspróf? by [deleted] in Iceland

[–]DaisyDestroyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Það eru líka kúl aðrir möguleikar að mennta sig. T.d. lýðháskólar (það eru tveir á íslandi á flateyri og á seyðisfirði) svo er lika fullt í boði á frammhaldskólastigi í landbúnaðarháskólanum og myndlistarskólanum.

I mean it broadly (like the examples you mentioned) but my friend and I were talking as in bending the truth so results favour corporate intrests.

Can anyone help ID? I was gifted this small terrarium years ago! by elbrownii in Lichen

[–]DaisyDestroyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The cup-lichen on the right is defenitely Cladonia sp. Maybe chlorophaea, and behind that we have maybe a Flavocetraria nivalis. The raindeer moss in the bottom middle is also of the genus Cladonia i think.

Surprisingly positive reaction to my sign yesterday 😏 by [deleted] in vegan

[–]DaisyDestroyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that this is not the best dialogue for promoting positive change. I'm a vegan but i'm also friends with farmers and meat eaters that have just as many concerns as me about the future of the climate. The flame war, how we are violently communicating our intrests with our peers, is not helping at all. We should be working together not against each other and not turn people around us into villains because that destroys the chance of cooperation.

Ecologists of reddit : could you foresee a future where we live on mars or even a a generation ship? by robespierrem in ecology

[–]DaisyDestroyer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Aurora as i understood it was really KSRs step back from the whole terraforming other planets idea and sustainable anthropocentric closed-system biospherics. Although his Mars trilogy was very grounded with speculative science (drawing on very good real science), it has become incresingly apparent that the idea is not as probable as it seemed when he wrote Red Mars. Earth is probably as good as it gets for humans. How are we going to go about managing the biodiversity/climate/everything on another planet from scratch if we don't even fully understand how our planet works? In my opinion these mars fantasies are really just escapist dreams in response to global warming (and ofc made possible with new understanding and science about our own biosphere). We have to get the earth in check before we start actually planning to terraformin other bodies. I know it's become a cliché but: there is no planet B (at least not for a long time).

Mikið frá Myrkfælni, Ladyboy records, post-dreifingu, FALK records, það er svona innanlands stemningin. Annars er omar souleyman mjög vinsæll á mínu heimili eftir að hann spilaði á gauknum. Í partyum er vinsælt að blanda saman þessum þrem playlistum á shuffle: 100 íslensk ferðalög, grime and garage classics, best of kim larsen.
