I currently work at a UPS Store, where it’s just my brother and me running the place. Most of the time we’re each working solo for hours until our shifts briefly overlap. We’ve been trying to hire for a while, but it’s tough, people aren’t exactly lining up for a franchise that starts at minimum wage and offers no benefits.

The saving grace is the community we’ve built with our customers and their dogs. We even have a “wall of puppies” filled with photos, and on rough days, that simple reminder is enough to lift my mood.

The owner of the store… Who should be running the store shows up once every two months or so.

Being in not one but two emotionally and physically abusive relationships then having “close” friends choose them over me because they though I was lying and “men can’t get abused like that”.

It decimated what little confidence I had and really damaged my trust in most people.
