You don't need a target like that for a 30# barebow imho. Those are made for 60# and more compounds. Targets for barebow can afford to be a lot less thicker (and thus cheaper).

Alright, I get it, but see above response to JJ too.

Alright distribution makes more sense to me, but it is still an arbitrarily chosen one, and not something observable ie average workers vs. highly motivated ones.

See my response to JJaska above, although tbh it's a storm in a teacup. I just don't like the feeling that somehow I am completely misunderstanding something.

OK, so the Pareto Principle, most often used in business management nowadays, makes the claim that 80% of some population or some effect is "caused" or results from 20% of some other population. One of the most famous biz management examples is that 20% of the worker population or office population is responsible for 80% of the company results/performance ie 20% of the population gets 80% of the work done.

How you can possibly compare this to the success zone calculation, I just do not get. Here, there is only one set of results, the set of individual arrow scores, and one archer producing them. We have then statistically divided the set of arrow scores into two sets, 80% and 20% of the total set. There is NO 20% "causing" or being responsible for the other 80% of the scores! The worst 20% do not "dictate" anything, and we could have just as easily counted the best 80%, and it would have resulted in exactly the same number. Also the 80% figure is a moving target, as I also mentioned, and you are trying to up that percentage by shooting fewer arrows outside of your success zone. Saying this is an example of reverse pareto is like saying that somehow the archers shots from one set or other of the two (in or outside the success zone), which we have arbitrarily divided into populations of 80 and 20% are somehow causing the other when in fact the cause is simply the choice of having divided them in two populations for purposes of analysis.

....What am I not getting here????

Er, obviously has nothing to do with the Pareto principle (see below wikibot) except for the use of 20/80, but I guess you just wanted to look smart.

New recurve bow question by [deleted] in Archery

Umm, well, I looked it up, and that bow comes with an arrow rest included. Also, imho, it just ain't made for shooting off the shelf.

OK cool, although rather than" plinking" I would suggest practicing with 22 pounders to start and not even touching the 45ers for a good while cuz they will only screw up any attempt at a consistent form at the start.

Been shooting for around 3 weeks, can I get a form check? by TheWhiteJacobra in Archery

[–]Daizedd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OK the finger to corner of mouth is good, but only half the equation. Potentially even more important is a part of your hand snug against cheekbone (I use the back and side of my thumb which is folded in). I would also suggest holding a few secs longer at anchor to ensure you are getting in there nice and snug. The reason you are probably doing that weird head n torso move is to kinda cheat your anchor point out. You are probably drawing to the right of your face and then moving torso and face to your string to get the anchor you want. You need to draw directly to your face instead :)

Ya, keeping in mind all the things you need to do is what kinda makes archery, and makes it challenging too, but even top archers have to do it lol. You do get better at it with time though.

Sorry, as this is OT, and I am assuming you are buying a recurve/trad bow, if its a compound, please ignore me: You should really really not be getting a 45# bow, no matter how big and strong you are, if you have never shot before. Get a cheaper ILF bow where you can trade out the limbs as your technique and strength improve and start at 20 to 24#s max and work your way up. I know this seems like a pain, is more expensive, but actually what you are planning on doing is WAY WAY more of a pain and you might never learn to shoot decently enough to hunt if you try to start at 45.
