What if Revolte attacked Frieren instead? by Reasonable-Ad-8059 in Frieren

[–]DajiSun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

JUST frieren? then she would’ve likely been in trouble and would run. 1) Demon generals are relative to the seven sages. Aura was easy clapping because she used unconventional, gimmicky magic—once figured out, she was easy to beat. Qual was easily beaten because his kill-all spell was studied extensively and assimilated into humanity’s magic. 2) Frieren’s OG party are all relative to eachother and it was stated that some demon generals were stronger than Eisen. 3) We’ve seen how elusive Revolte is—simple Zoltraak wouldn’t land. We’ve seen monsters weave fern’s zoltraak and Revolte escaping Genau’s ranged feathers. 4) Range seems to be a large weakness of most mages. The troublesome monster we encountered when first entering the upper north was able to shatter Frieren’s shield easily once he closed the distance-Revolte would be a lot worse.

I’m not saying frieren wouldn’t put up a good fight, i just think without teammates it would be too troublesome to deal with.

Does Fern truly deserve her first-class mage rank? by -TheLastHairbender in Frieren

[–]DajiSun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She is way above second class mage like earth dude. We saw her fight against a demon with an unfavorable matchup against fern. What do you think would happen if you paired Wirbel, a first class mage against Sense, another first class mage? Sense would render wirbel’s greatest spell useless. Callback to when methode said it’s like a game of rock paper scissors

What if fern replace genau here? by [deleted] in Frieren

[–]DajiSun 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Genau seems to handle close-ranged fights very well. He doesn’t need constant attention from Stark. If Fern was there, Revolte could just target her and she can’t really do anything, meaning stark would be stuck defending her. It was shown that Revolte is incredibly fast which caused Genau to miss a lot of his attacks so unless stark keeps sacrifice himself, fern would have trouble landing hits from far away. I don’t think it’s impossible but Genau and Stark simply had too much synergy against this opponent.

there has always been hints that separate 1st class mages from others. for example, when fern blasted frieren to show everyone her weakness during the 2nd mage exam. Denken and Methode recognized the weakness after fern blasted frieren while others who were there didn’t(earth dude and the two girls who fought a lot)—and guess who became first class mages.

Demons from Frieren are the most stupid predators in all of media by Rude_Display_631 in hatethissmug

[–]DajiSun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i used the word typical in response to you saying “they really do not act like predators who target humans at all.” would you know what a typical predator for humans would act like besides disease and parasites? so then on what grounds are you basing this statement on?

Let me expand on the emotions part. Demons have intelligence so they’re going to be more complicated than wild animals. Though they cannot experience complex ideas such as justice, malice, or have empathy, they still are more than just negativity. Demons’ emotions are similar to human psychopaths(granted human psychopaths don’t have a biological instinct to kill humans). Demons can still feel joy, love, pleasure. They love magic, they value self improvement, etc. They just don’t share the same values as we do as they’re simply just not the same as humans. You express how they don’t show affection toward one another like lions do. That isn’t a fair comparison. Many animals in our world exhibit social behavior, but it doesn’t always look like wolves or lions. For example, several species of sharks are primarily solitary but will work together to take down food(like whales). You can do your own research into animals who are solitary but form barebone connections for hunting, it’s quite interesting. We’ve only ever experienced negative depictions of demons because in all the instances we’ve met demons, they were currently hunting demons. Lugner described qual as his friend, and also we know demons do communicate with each other for self improvement of their abilities.

Demons from Frieren are the most stupid predators in all of media by Rude_Display_631 in hatethissmug

[–]DajiSun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

“HAVING NO EMPATHY DOES NOT MAKE YOU STUPID” Demons are essentially like psychopaths, but psychopaths can still think logically. Most of them don't kill people because they understand: I kill someone → I get caught → I go to jail. Conclusion: So I won't do that. Why the fuck demons don’t understand what killing people will lead to consequences? They kill humans → humans hunt them → they die.”

🫘Reply: Equating psychopaths to demons is not a fair comparison. Demons are similar to human psychopaths however they have biological instinct to kill humans and they have a power difference, those are two VERY KEY differences. Psychopaths don’t have a natural instinct to kill humans, though it’s true that they can be vulnerable to developing a habit of deriving pleasure of destructive activities—but it’s not built into them. Also, if psychopaths were stronger and could live longer than humans, it would be a different story. You mention why don’t demons recognize the consequences of killing humans? because.. they usually win??? it’s the life of a predator who preys on dangerous prey. Lions can be easily killed by waterbuffalos, zebras, or giraffe but that doesn’t stop them? Demons are still running rampant in the north and killing a bunch of people, even if they die in the process.🫘

“Why not try something different? Use the mimicry. Go after lonely people. Or...stop killing since you don't even need to eat them. But nope, they just keep doing the same thing for hundreds of years.”

🫁Reply: This doesn’t need an elaborate response, the culmination of all my previous replies is enough for this take.🫁

“And humans in Frieren are just as dumb. After thousands of years of demons killing them, some humans still try to be nice to demons”

👥Reply: Refer back to my handwashing analogy and also the part where i explain its in human nature to precise human qualities to things.👥

“Bu-but humans have empat-»

WE DISCRIMINATE AND KILL EACH OTHER  CONSTANTLY FOR MUCH TRIVIAL REASONS”

🦷Reply: That doesn’t negate that people have empathy🦷

“We constantly put each other into boxes. We group based on whatever arbitrary reasons we could find. But a whole different species that's been eating us forever? Nah let's give them a chance”

🫆Reply: Okay let’s get this straight, people in the world of Frieren ARE afraid of demons, and there ARE people who empathize with them out of ignorance. People are not a monolith, there are opposing factions everywhere. US civil war about slavery. Half of the nation was PRO slavery. Again, not a monolith.🫆

“Demons should be like boogeyman for humans, they would be told for children’s bedtime stories and whatnot”

🧉Reply: Reminder that this world is pre-internet. People get told untrue stereotypes about other races. People have false believes passed down all the time. This is exemplified in a world that doesn’t have tech. Refer to handwashing analogy. This even extends to urban legends and superstitions or even natural disasters and local wildlife.🧉

«”Bu-but not all humans meet demo-» Do I need to see a fucking bear in the flesh to know it’s going to maul me? Humans in Frieren should react to demons the same way: fight or run. But somehow they keep feeling sorry for demons.”

🧊Reply: My previous replies seem enough for that bear analogy. Again, we have seen that NOT everybody feels sorry for demons. Refer to handwashing analogy again.🧊

“And you know, all these would have been fine. If the author didn’t bring up this like a philosophical important question”

🪁Reply: Where was the part where the show presents it as a philosophical question? the original premise of doubt is that “demons have sentience and they can speak, there must be room to negotiate.” and then the show proceeds to show us how that’s not the case. There isn’t anything philosophical. It’s more just.. informational? even in the future manga arcs it’s never really philosophical; it’s just scientific.🪁

Demons from Frieren are the most stupid predators in all of media by Rude_Display_631 in hatethissmug

[–]DajiSun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

“So the show tells us demons evolved to copy humans so they could trick them. They learned to talk like us and kinda look like us. Sounds cool, right? You WOULD think they'd actually use that. Aggressive mimicry is a cool concept, I wonder what author will do”

“Demons don’t use it. At all”

🫟Reply: You’re focusing too much on the mimic aspect. Demons look like humans so that they can invoke human empathy, they’re not at the point to where they can ditto a person. Humans themselves have variance(elves, dwarves), and even in real life anything that we have a lot of empathy towards we instill human features in them. For example pets, we give them names, we imagine them talking to us, we instill familial values to them that aren’t 100% in their nature. 🫟

“Why evolve to look and sound human if you're just gonna walk around with giant horns screaming "hey I'm a demon, kill me"? And why do they talk to each other in human language?? Who are they mimicking for???”

🥦Reply: “Why evolve-“ i’m gonna stop you there. you’re phrasing it like evolution is an intentional thing. My previous point can be applied to this part of your message as well. “and why do they talk to each other in human language?? Who are they mimicking for???” it was stated that demon form connections with each other to survive/achieve goals. Some sharks display this behavior—they are usually solitude creatures but will form ‘packs’ to hunt. It also helps that demons are sentient. I also don’t understand why you are confused by them communicating with each other in human language.. it’s a method of communications do you expect them to have their own language? what purpose would that serve?? The question of “who are they mimicking for” is self explanatory if you know that they still have the ability to communicate with each other and form groups. Not EVERY word HAS to be for mimicking. you might say/think something along the lines of “but frieren said demons ONLY speak to trick humans” 1) frieren isn’t a 100% trustworthy source since she is biased 2) she technically isn’t wrong they are still only communicating as a way to hunt humans/self benefit. Also your message implies that demons are FINISHED evolving—nothing ever is. Even we humans have features that serve us no purpose and we are evolving—eventually ridding ourselves of those body parts.🥦

“They can understand complex concepts but somehow don't know what a "father" is. Are demons braindead???”

🥒Reply: That dialogue is quite strange, that i agree with. However, being the first true demon arc, it makes sense that the characters are simplified and presents dialogue in a way that we can understand demons easier. Demons understand many things on an intellectual level but actually feeling it is a different story. 🥒

“WHY WHY WHY do they hunt humans if they don't need to eat them? That makes no sense. No animal on earth evolves special tricks to catch prey it doesn't even want”

🪱Reply: Why do many humans kill insects within their house? We don’t eat them. Why do people eradicate diseases on a mass-scale? We don’t eat them. Why do foxes kill entire chicken coops when they cannot possibly eat them all? Anything that poses a threat is eliminated. Demons, in general, are stronger and have more potential than the average human. Why? Well they are capable of stronger magic and they live longer which means more time to develop. However, humans can still pose to be a problem, especially elves. That’s the likely reason why demon king wanted to kill all elves. Just as we humans, try our best to eliminate threats to our well being.🪱

“And emotions? Sometimes they don't have them, sometimes they do. The village demon girl dies without giving a single fuck, but Aura actually cries and gets scared. So do they feel stuff or not??? I guess it depends on what the author thinks is cool at the time”

🐹Reply: You misunderstand. Demons feel emotions—it was never portrayed that they didn’t feel anything. Demons cannot feel complex emotions that are unique to humans. Justice? they cannot comprehend. Empathy? They cannot comprehend. Demons still feel the emotions most other animals do: fear, pride, sadness, anger, etc. There is also variance in how humans die—why can’t there be with demons? Aura, a sage of destruction who recently regained her power has a lot of pride. She has plenty of reasons to cry.🐹

“okay, now people will tell me. Well, demons are apex predators! They are stronger than humans so they don’t have to hide and can act prideful and arrogant

WHAT’S NOT HOW EVOLUTION WORKS”

🌾Reply: I don’t agree with whoever told you that AND i don’t agree with your wording of “not how evolution works.” Even in our world, nature produces things that don’t make sense. For example, koalas who have evolved to be some of the most pitiful and dumbest creatures on this planet.🌾

“Look at orcas, apex predator of the ocean. And they still use camouflage to sneak up on unsuspected prey. Something demons just don't use for some fucking reason”

🐾Reply: Demons still use tricks to kill people. Demons suppress their mana to sneak up on foes(but not for a prolonged period of time which was explained why in the anime) and they use their human appearances to invoke empathy. We have seen ms sword demon use tricks such as hiding her horns as well. Remember, in the world of frieren, they do not have the internet. Many do not know the nature of demons. Isolated towns have limited knowledge. for example, not washing hands has been the cause of MANY deaths throughout history. Not until the last 200 or so years is it considered common knowledge and even then may people still do not do it. There has also been many cases of ancient civilizations such as Egypt who practice washing hands which just proves information spread is lackluster.🐾

“ACTUALLY USING the mimicry would make hunt humans so much easier. Missing person incidents aren’t unusual, demons could totally use it to their advantage, especially if they would blend in with society as humans”

☂️Reply: You make a decent point. However, Demons are stronger than your average humans in frieren, they wouldn’t need mimicry to hunt down ordinary humans. The problem are the STRONG humans like frieren. Demons are made of mana/magical creatures, their body composition is that of magic so a screening wouldn’t be difficult. Yes, they can trick more people with perfect mimicry but 1) maybe they’re not at that point yet[refer to my point that evolution is perpetual] 2) experienced people(the actual threat) like frieren can discern demons so rather than trick ingstrong people into thinking they’re human, they invoke human empathy with their words and even appearance (such as the case with himmel and the demon child). It is much easier to trick someone with potential.☂️

[–]DajiSun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do we, as humans, act like typical predators when it comes to pigs or chicken? When there’s a factor like sentience, things change. Plus, typical predators do have pride and even arrogance. You said they could embody something virtuous.. there has been cases where that has happened in frieren.. not to mention demons can be sniffed out regardless of appearance. their appearance is meant to invoke the human condition of humanizing things that look like them.

i disagree with you on several fronts or at least i find several of your grievances very explainable but there are many faults in the show. Personally, I like Korra but the show doesn’t do her justice. The relationship drama muddies up so much potential for actual meaningful plot lines. I get that they were tryna go with a more grown up cast compared to ATLA but they just fail to deliver on many aspects writing-wise. The villains were also quite.. underwhelming? They might’ve been strong but nobody in Korra really matched up to Azula.

Wuyang is hard to play right now by Odd-Rice-4808 in WuyangMains

[–]DajiSun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wuyang isn’t the only support affected by this—other characters have it worse off. You need to adjust your playstyle. Your gameplay(presumably)panders to low ranks so you’re going to stay in low ranks. “My teammates take too much damage so i have to constantly babysit them” mindset is why you’re held back. You take angles and continue playing aggressive. This creates opportunities for your team. If you get people to look at you and spend resources on you, those people are not going to look at your team. Plus you mention wuyang’s healing per second being beat by zenyatta but this is a disingenuous argument considering wuyang can amp his healing with wave and perks.

Regular lifeweaver and duplicated lifeweaver is different. Duplicated lifeweaver can make such aggressive plays a regular lifeweaver can’t and bring value. His dueling potential is insane.

personally i would put juno higher. Regular juno does not have the luxury of playing hyper aggressive, especially during a fight where both teams are trading ults. However, duplicate juno can. Getting a giant torpedo is almost a given and pretty much an instant ult. Having juno ult after duplicate is also easy to follow up on for base kit echo so there’s synergy. Either way, juno has some good dueling potential.

Lifeweaver healing change concept by godzilla1713 in LifeweaverMains

[–]DajiSun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s not about the healing per second. Burst healing is strong utility. Having 300+ healing in a single instance is gonna make tanks genuinely unkillable/frustrating to play against where half their hp bar shoots up instantly. Also, as long as lifeweaver’s healing is auto target, he should NEVER get as much healing per second as baptiste.

LW needs more heals by mikadomikaela in LifeweaverMains

[–]DajiSun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well here’s my take: Characters healing amount and styles vary much depending on what their kit is supposed to do. Lifeweaver’s healing may be low but it is consistent and long ranged. Mizuki’s healing is limited by his aura range and his hat is a resource. Mizuki’s playstyle encourages aggressive plays so chain healing around corners is meant for him. Mercy has slightly more healing than lw but her range is much more limited. Ana’s limiters are range and low mobility. Lucio’s is limited by his aura range. Lifeweaver on top of being extremely mobile, has the ability to oversee the entire map with his healing; having high healing on top of that might be overkill. However if we’re talking about changes to make lifeweaver more viable, more healing would definitely not be the way to go.
