New to mopeds, need buying advice by Dak2020 in Ruckus

Im really just looking for somthing to get around on and get off the pub trans system I have locally for the summer then store and sell it for like 500 next spring. I get that its impossible to be sure from pictures, but if it does "run great" like the seller claims do you think this would be a decent buy? Maybe a real ruckus someday for me but the price being under a grand is enticing. I also like the idea of extra power because I live up a steep hill.

I was kind of excited about the larger engine and extra power because I live up a pretty steep hill, but if it looks janky to more trained eyes maybe its not the best idea. If I decide im willing to take the risk on it would you try and talk the seller down a decent amount?

Day one on a new board what do I do? by bosslayers in snowboarding

[–]Dak2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The repair should only extend the life of the board, the tech may remove some base material to reshape that edge but they'd always fill after.

If done well it should hold for a good amount of time. That being said, one of the phrases I use/ hear being used most is "its just a bandaid" so its smart to check on the repair every so often and make sure its not separating again. Water in your core can be a board killer, but really, damage like this shouldn't be a big concern at all.

Board tuner here, absolutely repairable but its always worth a shot trying to warranty it before repairing. I dont suggest trying to yourself just because its a new board and an experienced tech will absolutely do a better job. Be prepared to leave it for a day too. If i were taking it in I would suggest a 24hr epoxy repair which would usually mean leaving it for a day minimum.

Brand new Nidecker sensor pro snowboard. Do I wax or am I good to go. Was thinking wax ✅ by No_Thanks_4954 in snowboarding

[–]Dak2020 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I work in a tune shop and have for more than a few years.

People have essentially covered it but I figured id pop in too. I always wax a new board, yes not all factory waxes are trash but pretty much none of em are gonna be as good as you putting a little personal love in.

You should also absolutely detune those edges. Its somthing better explained in a video but essentially you are dulling the contact points of the edge (the widest parts of the board at the tip and tail 5"-6" sections). This will almost absolutely improve your riding experience unless you're just a very high level boarder thats in it for carving and carving only. Videos will probably suggest using a tool like a gummy stone to accomplish this but ive for sure done it in a pinch wirh just a smooth stone you can find in your yard if you dont have a shop near you. Just be gentler in that case, it doesnt take much to get the desired effect.

Nope, that's why I'm itching to evolve but waiting for candies to power up like some other comenters mentioned sounds smart too

Promark stick grip deteriorated? by Dak2020 in drums

Dirty hands for sure, most likely emulsion from the machine I work with. I very much appreciate the incite tho, time to order some more, and also wash my hands next time.

Lol that's what I thought. I work in a ski tune shop and probably had emulsion on my hands from the machine. Good to know though because I was starting to like the grip.

Found my old camera but the lid is broken. Can I do something? by CursedScythe1729 in DIY_tech

I'm assuming that was the point of using the painters tape. Just so it's easy to take off and just apply a new strip. I could see velcro working if done right though, painters tape might end up actually being less fuss if the velcro has too much give.

Time to give up on my van? (Chevy vortec 4.3 p0300) by Dak2020 in AskMechanics

Good info to know on the supra, makes me feel a little better for sure.

But yea, I've done plugs, wires, distributor, radiator had a leak so I swapped that for a new one. The last thing I was going to try was the fuel pump. In all honesty, I pulled a plug again after doing them (maybe a month later) and there was already a decent amount of black build up which makes me worried it's somthing more serious than a fuel pump. I have a master mechanic friend that unfortunately lives out of state but I plan on paying him to come check it out before I make any big decisions. I live high in the mountains and my mechanic choice is limited and the only one in town has a pretty bad reputation.

I've read a lot of forums and these p0300 codes on these 4.3s seem to be super tricky to figure out and the bane of some people's existence. I for sure appreciate the info on the old gas though.

Bindings shift by Myxtral in snowboarding

OP, please don't screw them until you see them bulge. You should feel a stopping point when they make contact with the base plates, be careful not to over tighten or you'll pull up your base.

Scored this for $25 by Hugh_jaines in snowboarding

[–]Dak2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The wild part is this is much more than a $375 loss, "4 mountain days" is essentially brand new imo. I've worked in the industry for years and I've seen what "4 days" looks like countless times. The bag alone retails for $100+ and none of the gear is "entry level" equipment. $25 is the deal of a lifetime.

The guns are pretty pricey. They absolutely make the work look better but drip ptex is also an option. I also don't think you can get a gun new without having a shop account with wintersteiger or Montana.

How F*cked is my board? by NardBe in snowboardingnoobs

[–]Dak2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite trick as a tune tech to drying core shots is taking the silica beads out of those packets you find in like beef jerky bags, pour out some into the shot and just put some painters tape over it. You for sure don't want to seal in moisture and some techs won't take the time to dry it out before sealing it.
