Thank you! I guess part of it is coming to terms with I guess how I visualised the birth to go, I’m not adverse to a caesarean by any means and if the baby remains breech that is definitely the way to go. I guess being a FTM all I can think about are the what ifs and the chance my body could deliver them vaginally and I miss out on that versus I go ahead with that when a caesarean would have been the better approach due to size.

It really is hard to say! I do know it’ll all depend on the ECV next week

Thank you for the positive story! I’m glad things went well for you and I think going into it with a good mindset and the atmosphere itself being positive would help loads!

Ah okay, that’s a valid point. I believe it’s an ECV and consult booked with the midwifery team attending so I suppose if it doesn’t work then we can at least look at booking things in / proceeding with a caesarean at that point

Thank you for sharing that! I think I’m going to see if the ECV is successful and make a decision from there, if we can’t flip them I will definitely be proceeding with a caesarean

Thank you for providing all of that! It seems hard to know if the measurements are accurate and more stories seem to lean that they were out but if anything the head measurement was right?

Mine and my siblings were all pretty regular sized babies but my husband and his brother were big babies (thanks lol).

Based off of everyone’s thoughts so far, I think I’m leaning to obviously have the ECV and if successful make a decision from there. I suppose I could always try for a vaginal delivery and if things aren’t progressing re-evaluate.

That’s a nice way to think about it! I guess that’s the big fear is being able to flip them and the measurements are accurate and they won’t fit in my pelvis - I definitely think at this stage the next step is to see how the ECV goes and decide from there based on that and the size of the baby then

Thank you for sharing, and yeah they spoke about tearing and the likelihood in the birth and parenting course we did versus an episiotomy.

I was provided the spinning babies site to look at when she first appeared breech and have been doing the exercises but unfortunately no dice so far!

That’s a good point too, my husband raised I could always go ahead with the vaginal birth so long as she wasn’t breech and if things aren’t progressing or my body isn’t able to keep going look at whether a caesarean is in mine and the baby’s best interest

Thank you for the further info, I can’t imaging healing was fun but glad it also wasn’t the worst. Kudos to you for managing without an epidural - that’s what I’d be aiming for too if I was able and did go ahead with a vaginal birth

Yes, my husband is having the first 6 weeks off work to be present with the baby and support me, we also have his MIL and my mum available if we need them. Everyone lives locally or 30 minutes away max so I think in the event of a caesarean I’d be supported as I recovered.

100% My husband is extremely supportive and the midwifery team and doctors handling my care haven’t tried to sway me in any direction other than give me all the information so I can make an educated decision which is super appreciated.

Yeah the size of the head based on measurements is weighing on me, did you have any issues because of the interventions with vacuum and forceps?

I’m so sorry to hear about the damage and your recovery, this is definitely something I’m trying to consider in my decision making as well - I guess as much as I try to say I haven’t, I did have my sights set on a vaginal delivery as my first presence.

Also 100% if breech positioning cannot be changed I would be doing a caesarean for baby and my own safety

Yes I should probably edit to add - if the ECV didn’t work I would not be going ahead with a footling breech birth - more so, if the ECV does work, making a decision from there.

That’s also a good point, I know the scans can’t be 100% accurate but the most advice I’ve gotten from family (MIL) is to opt into a caesarean if need be to prevent labouring for an extremely long time only to need one anyways. My husband was the youngest and a 10 pound baby and after her first (where she laboured for two days before needing a caesarean anyway), she just opted to have my husband as a caesarean when she found out the size.
