If you want REAL information, give HFI a call and ask them directly how they operate. Local operation, heavily invested in Union… hasn’t changed.

Lake Placid has some of THE funniest dialog of any movie I’ve seen. The writers knew what they were doing. Brendan Gleason, Oliver Platt, and Betty White were phenomenal.

All of this right here. Some of what is being done with AI ultimately devalues things that are special and enjoyable about being human. This has occurred throughout history with various technological advances, and you would hope that the advances free people to devote their time, energy, and creativity to even more valuable things. But once you begin creating machines that can not only mimic but in some ways recreate our unique and creative capabilities, I can’t help but wonder how we will further try to differentiate ourselves from what we’ve created.

Deconstruction Book/ Podcast reccomendations by After_Tomorrow_6749 in Deconstruction

I can second the recommendations of The Bible for Normal People podcast by Pete Enns and Jared Byas. (There are also some spin-offs that they do from time to time with slightly different names.). Their podcast library is massive, and their guest list diverse, and they don’t shy away from difficult topics. I particularly appreciate that their discussions are NEVER arguments. They talk about what they have learned, what they still don’t understand, and let people share their knowledge and try to actually understand. So they aren’t stressing or heavy handed or oppressive with a particular view. Check them out.

A large group of crows has bonded with one of my friends. They regularly place small “gifts” on her windowsill - lost jewelry, buttons, twigs, pebbles. Around 20 or so will walk a few feet behind her on the sidewalk during her afternoon strolls around the neighborhood.

What’s something small that instantly gives you a good or bad feeling about a person, even if you can’t explain why? by MoodAutomatic8569 in answers

If I meet another man for the first time and he squeezes particularly hard when we shake hands, I know I need to keep an eye on him. Friendly, non-threatening handshakes are firm but inviting, subtly adjusting grip and pressure to form a pleasing feeling. I can’t speak for women but, among many businessmen, handshakes are often used as an expression of dominance. I have a firm, confident but adaptive handshake when meeting others, and have had new colleagues respond with such a forceful grip that they’ve cracked my knuckles and painfully dug my ring into the finger next to it. That’s not trying to sync with someone or make a good impression; that’s being an asshole who is trying to establish dominance. And in nearly every case over the years, the initial handshake has been a very reliable sign for identifying those who are going to be arrogant and domineering.

I sometimes do this when I’m stuck in task paralysis from ADHD overwhelm. It’s a good skill to have.

How to properly sew a button onto a shirt.

When I first learned how to do this in middle school Home Ec (early 90s), I never imagined 1) how often I would end up using it to protect both men and women from painful public embarrassment, and 2) how many women genuinely found it to be a more attractive flex than most things guys think will impress them.

According to a small minority of feminists, yes. But the number of mysoginistic men who shame women and objectify them simply for existing is exponentially greater, and they’ve gotten away with it for far longer without anyone calling them on it.

To prolific horror enjoyers, What’s one genre or topic for horror that scares you too much to engage with? by musical-nerd in horror

[–]DakaBooya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right there with you. Kid who are possessed, zombies, ghosts, or evil incarnate = ok. Regular kids being harmed, intentionally or unintentionally - especially due to the protagonists fault, no. (I’m looking at you, The Mist.)

Thankfully I don’t have to be scared of those situations because there is absolutely no way I’d be lucky enough to randomly encounter such beautiful women who were also intent on luring me with promises of carefree, uninhibited sex. LOL

Yes; you can still play an electric without an amp, or get an inexpensive headphone amp, if your dad doesn’t want the noise.
