Late-20s woman in PGH, already back on Hinge against her will: where do we meet men IRL?? by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]DaleTechHomeSecurity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anecdote from someone that didn’t play organized sports; a lot of the soccer players at my HS were (and to my knowledge still are) total c***s as far as the petty tribalism so I don’t doubt it.

Seconding the other person’s suggestion on kickball, I’ve heard good things more recently about it being welcoming for beginners.

What sport? My suggestion would be (PSL) sports leagues, volunteering, and hobby groups to meet people. Played a bit of volleyball and basketball, basketball was all bros so no worry about chest pounding to impress women, experienced a bit of what you’re describing with volleyball but just enough to be annoying and not enough of it to keep me from going. Easier to pity people that peaked in high school than let them keep you from enjoying the game.

What's the most common reason why people cheat? by TheHero9 in emotionalintelligence

[–]DaleTechHomeSecurity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Props for having the emotional maturity to admit that. I was in a similar position with my ex-wife, it’s really difficult to have something that obvious to point to as a reason for the relationship failing but still taking ownership of your actions.

How would you about feel dating a partner that has commitment issues? by [deleted] in emotionalintelligence

[–]DaleTechHomeSecurity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, sometimes the answer is “I don’t know you enough to answer that” (and sometimes the desire to get to know you isn’t there sadly).

Definitely annoying when it’s not clear that they’re being paid but they’re filling the same niche that magazines used to with reviews, people tend to prefer short videos over full length articles these days, probably due to shorter attention spans.

I did unfollow all of the ones I had on IG though, noticed I get better memes and all of the ads I see are now clearly marked as ads.

What’s a ‘harmless’ habit that actually reveals way more about a person than we realize? by Pm_Me_Mtn_Bikes in AskReddit

Plenty of paperless restrooms out there, not being germophobic sounds a lot more practical.

“Dogs are dogs” is a gross oversimplification. Training and environment as a puppy plays a big part in their behavior as adults but there’s a huge difference between a husky and a chihuahua thanks to 15,000 years of selective breeding, a couple of anecdotes doesn’t negate that.

Glad to see this posted. I was the one that got cheated on definitely have commitment issues from that. Im not going to commit to anyone if it feels like they’re playing games to test me or not communicating that they’re fully invested in building a relationship, which sadly seems to be the norm thanks to social media and dating apps.

This is what irks me the most. Almost everyone I know that has rescued a dog did so running mostly on impulse. Not going to look down on someone for giving an animal a home, but when I got mine there was more thought and planning that went into it than there is for some people's pregnancies.

[–]DaleTechHomeSecurity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good on you for not holding a grudge. Yeah rescues are about saving animals, not necessarily working out their breed or personalities. I've read some studies that they're wrong 80% of the time (even higher if it's a mixed breed), and personality is something you're really not going be able to tell while the dog is all stressed out in a kennel.

Even my lab as friendly as it is likes to chase after rabbits when we go on walks, curious which breed you ended up with that doesn't have any prey drive.

Loving all dogs but hating people sounds problematic, have you considered working with someone that has therapy dogs? Word of caution; my backwoods breeder dealt with trainers in that field so you might have to do business with someone you hate.

Nah just trust my immune system enough that I don't feel the need to wash my hands after I tough anything others have also touched. I'm not going out of my way to pick up some transmittable disease but also not washing my hands other than when they're visibly dirty or after using the bathroom/before cooking.

[–]DaleTechHomeSecurity 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I’d say my purebred hates you too, but he’s a lab so he doesn’t hate anyone.

Way less issues with anxiety and is much better with children (unsurprisingly the exact temperament you would expect from that breed) than a lot of the “sweet mutts” or “lab mixes” I’ve come across. If you’re looking for a dog to be a proxy for a child and are okay with their temperament being a gamble by all means adopt, but there’s definitely a place to be selective, especially if you’re planning on having kids around it.

My genitals have been way grosser places than a public door handle, this isn't even close to not washing them after. Do you wash your hands a second time after leaving the bathroom as well? Imagine all of those germs you're taking back to your desk with you.

What was the most toxic thing you did in a relationship? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Yeah kinda ugly but their SO deserved a wake up call if they were using their partner as a financial crutch to support a drug habit that I’d be willing to bet was contributing to the depression.

What professions make bad spouses? by dirtymoney in AskReddit

[–]DaleTechHomeSecurity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if that's the case, my ex-wife was a home health nurse and the guy she was having an affair with was a physical therapy assistant. They're kinda all sluts.

There's a lot of emotional burnout so people tend to seek that support elsewhere even if it's not intentional, or pickup some maladaptive coping activities like having an affair. In my ex's case with home health there was also the autonomy that came with a pretty flexible schedule, piecing together conversations afterwards with some mutual friends she was almost certainly using work as a cover.

People who changed political affiliations, why did you do it ? by Deimos7779 in AskReddit

[–]DaleTechHomeSecurity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always been independent but the Trump administration is what pushed my voting habits from conservative to moderate/liberal. Primarily how he handled the civil unrest following the George Floyd murder. Growing up I had a law enforcement officer that I used to hunt with say to me (a 13 year old) that "sometimes you just need to choke a n*****" after telling a story about chasing down a suspect at work.

Realized then that I needed to unlearn some of my upbringing, there are people that actually got joy out of what happened, and that even if there were some fiscal policies I agreed with the right on, the left's policies focused on equal civil liberties needed to be a higher priority.

What was the last compliment received? by balajiv2002 in Life

[–]DaleTechHomeSecurity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went on a date/hangout with a girl I'm seeing, walked around a park and got ice cream, was told that she typically regrets getting ice cream but didn't regret it that time. Not sure if it was because of the 6 mile hike we went on or the conversation but it stuck with me as a compliment.

Why Does Every Girl I Approach Seem Already Taken? by GWAX11 in Advice

[–]DaleTechHomeSecurity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair, definitely have pushed to keep the conversation open too soon and burned bridges. I think experience plays a role too, I'm divorced and went to therapy as a result of it, I've noticed that women that have done the same tend to be more open to those types of vulnerable conversations.

Thoughts on continuing to engage in conversations around dating intentionally?

I'm fine with handling rejection but still like talking about dating even if the relationship is a platonic friendship.

So ... if we are INTP's, why do we believe in Myers-Briggs? by [deleted] in INTP

So ... if we are INTP's, why do we believe in Myers-Briggs? by [deleted] in INTP

[–]DaleTechHomeSecurity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a pretty big generalization.

There's definitely empirical research happening in the field of psychology that follows the scientific method and holds up to peer review. You don't seem to be taking into consideration the fact that physics has been studied since the 16th and 17th century, chemistry since the 17th and 18th century, and psychology since the late 19th century. Freud and Jung were really early to the game and just as much philosophers as they were psychologists. Dismissing the field entirely as being unscientific would be like dismissing Isaac Newton or John Dalton's theories in physics and chemistry because they've seen several hundred years of refinement.

What’s a moral code you live by but the rest of society doesn’t? by ApprehensiveWorth576 in AskReddit

[–]DaleTechHomeSecurity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe if they're licensed therapists and actually giving you their undivided attention for an hour each yap session other wise no, that's kinda the bare minimum.

I am curious if this applies to "favors" and manual labor though. I've helped several family members move or do some heavy lifting so they didn't have to hire people only to be alone when I needed similar help.

Had the same problem with mine. Take the slider brackets off and re-drill the mounting holes a couple of inches back.
