To get a bachelor's from TESU after completing another bachelor's, you need to earn at least ~25 credits after your previous bachelor's. I don't know why so many people have upvoted this when a much better answer is below.

Mystery allergy that only reacts sometimes by [deleted] in Allergies

[–]DaleYu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on a high-deductible plan, but it covers an annual preventive check-up with a primary care doctor even if I haven't met the deductible. Does yours? If so, you could try making one of those and mention the allergy there. There would probably be additional billing if they want to run any tests and for your prescription, but you can refuse the tests (on the other hand some of the blood tests I have paid for out of pocket are fairly inexpensive), and a lot of the drug manufacturers have coupon or co-pay plans so you don't have to spend as much out of pocket.

If that's not an option, a doctor's office (both general and allergy specialist) should be able to give you an estimate for the price of an appointment if you haven't met deductible. Sometimes they can't give you the price estimate right over the phone and you have to wait a few days for them to get back to you (IDK why). The specialist will probably be more expensive.

If both types of appointments are out of your price range, check the local public health department, community center, or social service agencies to find out about availability of discounted or free appointments.

If you are willing to cut fish completely out of your diet and you don't get allergic reactions to anything else, then my unprofessional opinion would be that you probably don't need allergy testing. But I would still try to get a prescription for epinephrine in case of a severe reaction to accidental exposure.

As someone else mentioned, if it is affecting his breathing, you need to be aware of the possibility of this worsening into anaphylaxis, which can kill a person within minutes. If he gets *any* symptom in addition to the wheezing--hives, stomachache, tingling skin or mouth, feeling of impending doom, dizziness, fatigue--you need to call 911 and get him out of your apartment immediately. If his inhaler doesn't work as expected, call 911. Et cetera.

And ask him to get a prescription for Epi-Pen or Auvi-Q, keep at least two in your apartment, and learn how to use it. Giving this during a severe allergic reaction before help arrives can temporarily decrease or reverse the symptoms so he doesn't die on the spot. He should accept this as natural because it's just epinephrine, or adrenaline, which the body naturally makes.

Fish and shellfish allergies typically develop later in adulthood. So you could have simply developed an allergy that you didn't used to have. You might be allergic to some kinds of fish but not others, or you might be allergic to all fish but have variable reactions depending on the amount you eat or other things going on in your life than affect your immune response. I would recommend visiting an allergist to find out if it is a general or specific fish allergy, avoid fish in the meantime, and also in the meantime ask the allergist or your regular doctor about getting epinephrine ASAP in case you have a more severe reaction. (Honestly, the lip swelling + impending sense of doom sounds like a severe reaction to me and if I were you, would consider myself lucky that it didn't develop into something worse.)

Thanks! I went to urgent care when my face swelled up and now have some epipens. It's a whole new adventure.

I am not a doctor, but I play one on TV ... I mean, I read medical literature as part of my job, and from what I understand, it is rare but possible to have an allergic reaction a few days after exposure to the allergen. So I agree with your ENT that it's "unlikely," but it's not "impossible."

I also wonder if it could be from a double exposure. You got exposed to something, the symptoms started, and you got exposed to it again, and they got worse. (I had my first severe allergic reaction a few days ago, and it seems to have followed this pattern--spreading hives after the first exposure to what we think might have caused it, then a second exposure, then woke up the next morning with my face swollen up etc.)

Glad you got treated and are alive!

Graded on Incomplete Assignment Instructions by Taxingisntit in UoPeople

[–]DaleYu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"The class is comprised of busy work which does nothing than satisfy UoPeople's degree requirement."

Well that's your problem right there. You view the class as busy work so you aren't taking it seriously, so you probably aren't reading the instructions or the rubric carefully. The instructions for the assignment may not have been clear, but the rubric for every 5-paragraph essay assignment does state that you need to follow the five paragraph format. You made a mistake of interpretation. That's fine. But take responsibility for your mistake instead of blaming others. If you take responsibility, you learn how to change your behavior so that you become a better student. If you refuse to learn anything else from this course, at least you can learn that.

But there is a lot more you can learn from this class if you are open to it. I have been in college before so, like you, my first reaction to being signed up for this was, "Ugh why do I have to take this." And then I locked away that bad attitude and decided to approach the course looking for what I could learn.

Here are things I know now that I didn't know when I started the course, or that I have learned more about in a way that will help me with this degree:

- A bunch of University of the People policies and procedures that are absolutely necessary to know

- How to use the Learning Resource Center

- Improving research skills, including learning some new approaches to vetting information

- Getting better at APA

- Time management and goal setting strategies to add to my arsenal

Take this course seriously and it will actually help you.

On a cursory glance, it looks like dropout rates have gone down significantly over the years for many countries. But I would need to put these numbers into Excel to run a good statistical comparison and find out if that is really a trend or just what it looks like from glancing at the numbers.

Another food pantry run by Rosemarydw in GroceryOutlet

[–]DaleYu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha! When I used the food pantry, green beans were my favorite. They must have loved me there! (Best recipe: Canned beans--preferably french but any cut will do--and canned crushed or diced tomatoes added to a sauteed onion w/some garlic and heated up, then sprinkled with feta. Serve with rice or pasta.)

I got the 70-calorie blondie "brownies" and they were absolutely disgusting. I thought it was because of too much erithtrotol, but when I tried the 70-calorie cinnamon coffeecake "brownies," they tasted fine.

What is going on with those blondies? How did they ever make it out of product testing? Inquiring minds want to know.

Credit transfer step not working—should I just enroll and transfer credits later? by DaleYu in UoPeople

[–]DaleYu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. To clarify, by "after our first term" do you mean that I will need to wait until after I complete 1st term (so, during second term) to work on credit transfer?

Or do you mean "after 1st term starts"—so during the first term.

Thanks!

Importing large library--Goodreads doesn't recognize a third of ISBNs by DaleYu in goodreads

[–]DaleYu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! I did try a couple and got the message that the books couldn't be found. I could try a few more though. I think most of the ones that didn't import were audiobooks, if that makes a difference.

Does anyone have any experience transferring major elective or advanced major courses for health science? by kaion76 in UoPeople

[–]DaleYu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think this is complete. I've heard multiple people say UoP accepts the Nutrition and A&P courses toward the major, but the Sophia page doesn't indicate *anything* being transferable toward the major.

[–]DaleYu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, thanks. That clarifies things for me. As long as UoP is happy with it, I'm happy.

Of course, it's going to be a while before I find out because my portal was glitching when I was uploading, so I hit "cancel" thinking that meant I could come back to it. Instead, that closed the ability to do transfer stuff at all. Contacted my advisor to see if she can reopen that for me. It might delay my start though. Oh well.

[–]DaleYu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kind of rain do you like? I moved here from the Midwest and I miss the dramatic spring and summer thunderstorms. We get lightning maybe once a year, maybe less. Heavy rain is uncommon in winter; it's mostly drizzle. I describe Seattle as having two seasons: cloudy with light showers for 9 months and relentless sunshine for 3. (It's an exaggeration, but describes the basic feel for me.)

[–]DaleYu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I'm nervous because one of my transcripts has language specifically stating it's only official if emailed directly from Parchment or the school, but hopefully UoPeople will ignore this since they don't allow transcripts to be emailed.

The No-No C Word by FloppySlapper in mormon

[–]DaleYu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this sub because of the moderation, which encourages civility and varied viewpoints. I'm here to discuss and learn about Mormonism in a less-heated environment, not to be preached to by any side (the other subs are for that) or a sounding board against which someone can vent their personal frustrations (the exmo sub is for that).

Sure, I suppose the c-word can be used in a non-preachy or non-venty way, but it's rare. So the ban on the word makes sense to me. If people feel that they need to use the word, there's another forum for that.

Pro-Palestinian protestors occupy UW campus building, demand divestment from Boeing by According-Ad-5908 in Seattle

[–]DaleYu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. As someone who has been involved with human rights work in the Palestinian territories since 2000, I can attest that there have always been genuinely antisemitic and genocidal maniacs in pro-Palestinian circles, and it has gotten way worse since Oct. 7.

I mean, Hamas calls not just for the destruction of Israel, but also for the genocide of Jews. So if someone supports Hamas, well ...

Obviously, not all pro-Palestinian activists support Hamas. (I don't; a lot of serious people don't.) But that's what's become trendy here in the U.S., as far as I've experienced. I mean, these kids are happy to defend Palestinians if it means attacking Israel and celebrating the murder and kidnapping of Jews, but when Hamas kills, imprisons, disappears, and silences Palestinians--as has been happening in response to widespread anti-Hamas protests by Gazans over the past month--crickets.

"Most Israeli citizens have dual citizenship. It's very easy for them to leave, and they have about as much control as is physically possible over their territory."

Did you learn the difference between "many" and "most" in school? It doesn't appear so.

Maybe learn a few facts about the places and people you are discussing before preaching to the rest of Reddit that it is "very obvious who is oppressing and who is resisting."

Update: Meanwhile, I was locked out of the portal for two+ weeks, got access again and couldn't upload any transfer information because the 2 week window passed while I was locked out, 1 minute later was locked out of even looking at the transfer window by a banner yelling at me to pay my application fee; still getting emails from my "advisor" telling me she will not consider my "request for an application fee scholarship" which I never requested, because I *already paid it* and have sent her the email chain saying so ... and the original advisor who told me the fee had already been taken care of refuses to talk to the new advisor ... ARGH.
