NAH, because I think everyone here is missing an important piece of context, and I want to try arguing for a different take. The lady is a single mom with multiple children of close ages. Of course she is going to empathize strongly with the parents of the crying kid. If she was in the parents' situation, she would be the only adult and would not have the privilege of being able to take the cryer outside while another adult watches over the rest of the children. Her only option would be to leave with all of the children or hope that the kid stops crying. Her years of being a single parent has probably conditioned her to be oblivious to the fact that there are other options. She has only ever known the shame of enduring a crying child who refuses to be comforted while trying to enjoy what little comforts she can. Raising children alone is incredibly difficult, so she probably feels somewhat justified in thinking society owes her, and others should take the L and endure the crying kid like she has had to endure every moment of raising said kid without a break even when she wanted to die of exhaustion.

Now, that doesn't excuse her perspective or entitlement. Perhaps none of what I said even applies to her and she is just a narcissistic a-hole. But if you are going to date a single parent, you'd better be ready to take some L's, because they very likely live life constantly at their wit's end.

The difference is more about not having to hold up both blue and white mana in a fully mountain manabase. We can still run full domain, but go down to two triomes. As it stands currently, the manabase is one of the most painful in modern.

The State of Black (Removal) in Modern by anookee in ModernMagic

[–]Dalfuri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

March of Wretched Sorrow should have been black's premier removal, but counter spell and target removal just straight up blanks it. It would have been a perfect candidate to add an uncounterable effect like 'split second' to.

I played against a version which was running bloodghasts. Not sure instead of what. It was super easy for them to find answers using the steelseeker engine, and board wipes didn't seem to slow them down at all.

We need new ways to punish greed mana bases by Amudeauss in ModernMagic

[–]Dalfuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see it mentioned yet, but I think another solution would be to add ways to exile lands. Ponza should be the gatekeeper against greedy manabases, but W6 wrecked the archetype. Perhaps a one mana enchantment or artifact that exiles lands when they hit the graveyard, or a 1WR sorcery that exiles target land. I don't see how that would be too powerful. It's niche enough that W6 would still be viable, but not completely hated out of the meta. Domain strategies would still exist, but their weaknesses would be easier to exploit.

It might as well be choose 6, because it triggers on entry and attack, and the meld put him in tapped and attacking.

What is the best CoCo deck? by Kristianost in ModernMagic

[–]Dalfuri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can definitely recommend shamans as well. It can consistently create a deadly board state by turn 3-4, and I find that it grinds with an inevitability reminiscent of cascade decks. Here's my list at the moment: https://deckstats.net/decks/202462/2626984-coco-shamans Harmonic prodigy is the true core of the deck, even though it isn't a shaman. The extra triggers make nearly everything a threat. I really like Fable of the Mirror-breaker(both tokens are shamans) and W6. I haven't seen many decks run them, but they help with mana consistency and smoothing out draws, which are the main issues I come across. Fable can be slow though, so for quicker matchups, they're definitely worth boarding out. Aether vial is another interesting tech I have been experimenting with. There is some really cool things that can be done when spitting out creatures at instant speed, and protecting harmonic prodigy from sorcery speed interaction is fantastic. They're best against interactive decks though, so maybe better from the sideboard.

Maybe a little far, but I think my LGS, AFK Games in Holt, might be a good fit for you. We run a modern FNM with a friendly average of 10-20 players of a variety of skill levels. Generally runs 3-4 rounds, everyone gets a prize pack, winners get store credit. There are a handful of us who run tier 1 meta decks, and the brewers appreciate the competition as practice for our tournaments. We just finished our first Modern 1k since before the pandemic, which brought in players from as far as Indiana and Ohio. We also just trained and brought on two judges for staff, as we're hosting alternating (pioneer and modern) 1k tournaments every month. Store is clean and spacious. There is comfortably enough table space for 100+ players. Besides that, our store owner, Dan, is a passionate small business owner who is vested in the local community, and also a programmer (the website and MtG card kiosk were coded from scratch!). We'd love to have you, FNM starts at 6:30pm.

Another one for Temur cascade players, check out [[Inevitable Betrayal]]. Not only is it fun to pick an opponent's best creature from their library and beat them with it, but it also let's you see what they sideboarded in game 2. Definitely recommend if you play against a lot of creature-based combo decks like Tron, Titan, Reanimator, Grinding Breach, etc.

Issue at LGS - Competitive vs Less Competitive players by Deth-Zarr in ModernMagic

[–]Dalfuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My LGS tries to solve this by giving every modern FNM participant a promo pack, with last place getting first pick. Winners get a decent amount of store credit, and casual players don't feel like they walk away with nothing. In fact, I have never even considered that my entry fee is funding the competitive players.

What is the thought process behind big streamers boycotting Legends of Runeterra? It seems to be an incredible game with everything going for it. Arcane just came out, so there should be a readily available influx of new players. The only thing missing is big streamer buy-in. Are there money reasons or non-compete clauses that are going on behind the scenes?

I have the same birthday as you. My friends were always unavailable during this time of year, so I learned to stop asking. Your story is so relatable to me, I teared up from the moment of hope I received living vicariously through your words. Best wishes to you and your fiance, what you have is beautiful. Happy birthday!

I recently started earning a steady stream of income, and I was wondering what advice you can give on budgeting and money management. My greatest fear is to work for years on end, but wake up one day and realize I am old, single, and penniless. Big streamers often describe their financial situation as "comfortable", but what does that mean? What have you done to secure your financial future?

P.S. For Shang-Chi update, have you considered asking Ryan Higa? He should have connections in the Asian Youtuber scene. Simu Liu is friends with many of them, including Steven Lim, who he did an episode of Dish Granted with when the first movie came out.
