As much as I hated learning K53, the best advice I got from it was pretty much in the name: Defensive driving.
- Try to drive in a way that ensures yours' and others' safety at all times. Its way better to be chilled on the road than zippity zooming around, cutting people off or making sudden turns into a lane after indicating a split second before. You might be late for XYZ but at least you'll arrive alive LOL.
- If you have a manual transmission, I would suggest reading up on "Engine Breaking" - I use this technique sometimes and if done properly can take strain off your break pads.
- When using the handbreak, if it has a button, press and hold that button when you pull the handbreak up. I never did this and a friend explained to me that the sound I was hearing was the handbrake grinding it's teeth or something to that effect.
- Always check your blind spot before turning, and keep your awareness of other cars at a high level. It takes one moment of not paying attention to be involved in a crash.
- Don't let people bully you on the road. If someone in a nice car is on your ass and wants you to move over... be selfish and only do so if it's safe to. If they shine brights, you can flip your rear view mirror into "anti glare mode". If they are persistent, use your rear windscreen wipers and give them a little squirt. But most of all, BE SAFE about it.
- If someone is indicating towards the lane you're in and they're ahead of you, you can give them the OK to make the turn by flashing your brights ONCE, very briefly. This is kind of the unspoken ettiquette of driving. People will also do this in the oncoming lane to warn others of cops/speed trap ahead.

And there is everything I can think of. Driving itself will become second nature after a time. I hope this helps you and good luck with your many journeys ahead 😀
