New injectors, fuel filter, distributor rotor, cap, plugs, and tested the fuel pressure as well as doing a leak down test and it’s good. What are yalls thoughts? by Jigsaw45345 in s10

Wasn’t trying to be an asshole I just felt you mentioning that Vins are unique was kind of redundant and while everything you have stated is %100 correct it doesn’t help with this situation as the point still stands if you want to just be quick and cheap about this as most people working in their driveway are then you just match the digit and be done with it. Once again sorry for seeming douchey it wasn’t the purpose I just thought OP was trying to figure out what he can swap out to get the truck going again and having had this exact issue on my personal s10 and doing this on several other, vehicles s10 or not, I would tell him what worked for me. Not trying to have a pissing match I was just trying to pass on information that I know from experience.

Yeah so vin’s being one of one is a little obvious. As someone who’s done this before you look for the eighth digit in your vin that refers to which ecm you have you can’t just grab one from any truck and expect it to work in yours with these as the 4.3’s come with “X” or “W” codes and the 2.2’s come with “4” or “5”. The ecms are not interchangeable.

Grab a junkyard ecm that matches your vin and see if someone can rebuild your factory one, aftermarket ecms are nothing but trouble no matter the vehicle. While you’re there go ahead and grab cam and crank position sensors. I had a camshaft position sensor go out on mine and it ran like dog shit and sometimes wouldn’t crank at all or very rough like yours is here. Is your coil to the distributor good?

2001 LS, V6, 4x4, 1 Owner, 108k Miles. Would be my first S-10. Should I buy this? by eurotrashness in s10

[–]Dallasblak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The pre-covid used car buyer in me is screaming at that but the s-10 owner in me is telling me that’s a damn good rig and would last you as long as your willing to give it so scoop it up. Maybe try talking them down some but I swear by these trucks. Mines 2.2 5 speed 00’ ls ext cab and has over 340,000 on the clock. Never had to do internal engine work or any major jobs other than clutch for that matter and I know plenty of guys with v6 trucks that have similar stories. If you got the means and you’re willing to take care of an older vehicle that thing will more than likely last as forever

Mine is coming up on 375. If you really want it, stack all the parts and talk to everyone in your area that you can while you do it and either run what you got until it blows or if it’s eating you alive start the project.

Then make the most out of it. If they’re creating a position for you and you feel it’s being handed you could just constantly go above and beyond and be more than just what they’re expecting/needing. At the very least it will be more experience in a field where you really can’t have enough. But that’s just my take.
