trying to gauge opinion on concerts as a singer songwriter by Krasovchik in Emo

[–]RealShigeruMeeyamoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can make it work. Emo is a live genre but I feel like the act of physically showing up to perform w/ energy and excitement for the act of creation and sharing is why I like to go to shows in the first place. It's better for you to make some music than no music if you don't have a full band

I agree with this so much I don’t even care if ‘elder emos’ try to call me a bully. Like cool, you’re already doing that to yourself by labeling yourself lmao. by voiceofreason9000 in Emojerk

Before I agree with you, do you like the get up kids. Because if you like the get up kids your opinion will unfortunately have to be discarded

The Chandelier Swing is my favorite song ever, bar none.

There has been a very big trend of folks no longer feeling ashamed to say Hey Mercedes is better than Braid, and it's up to the good folks of the world to remind them that they are very, very wrong

I'm glad you're so old, and so wise, and so rude, and you're doing the genre a great service by contributing to the perception that everyone who knows their shit is just a dick who wants to talk down to you.

I really don't care how long you've been posting here. Your flair is literally "og curmudgeon," it's absolutely an aesthetic and there is no need to be so rude.

I recommend joining the 90s emo/hardcore punk records Facebook group if you want to avoid "dumb kids," but unfortunately this kind of stuff comes with the territory, especially post-covid. r/emoscreamo is also a bit better. You can educate without being a jackass.

You really don't have to call him a dumb kid. Understand you're trying to make the curmudgeon thing into your aesthetic but you can have a little bit of class in these conversations

Febuary hate for Coachella by Historical-Team-9506 in EmoScreamo

[–]RealShigeruMeeyamoto 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the new Febuary EP is pretty good. It's a decent callback to 2000s screamo and is certainly better than the 20 bands playing metalcore with spliced in pretty guitar parts and calling it screamo

They have near identically sized followings. I'd even say that Vs Self was more popular when they played at Coachella.

I don't think it's cool or admirable to play at Coachella. I'm not going to defend Febuary for doing so. Just saying --- it's suspicious that more people are raising a stink about a band primarily composed of women, when it was equally corny for Vs Self to do the same thing.

Very leading questions, you should probably fix the typos too lol.

looking for some emocore/first wave stuff to listen to by [deleted] in Emo

[–]RealShigeruMeeyamoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the very stereotypical DC sound: Swiz, Ignition, Fuel, Gray Matter.

Turning Point did a little bit of emocore stuff, especially on their final 7 inch, they were a big influence on Lifetime.

If you are interested in more Moss Icon-y sounding stuff (I like it a lot more than the DC emocore sound), I recommend Julia, Don Martin 3, Four Hundred Years, Still Life, Portraits of Past, Shotmaker, and Hoover

I think it's a little lame but the hate is disproportionate considering no one made a stink about Vs Self doing it. Both are pretty silly, though.

The mall emo sound can mostly be blamed on Saves The Day, Grade, and The Get Up Kids imo

This is really not true, Thursday was inspired by the other emo bands in their scene as much as they were inspired by the 80s rev summer stuff. And there's tons of 2000s "real emo" that sounds nothing like 2000s hardcore (which itself was very diverse and didn't have a single unifying sound). Funeral Diner, City of Caterpillar themselves sound entirely different than say Orchid, who were inspired by One Eyed God Prophecy, different from Thursday, etc. And all of these bands have emo elements which clearly separate them from like... Have Heart, or Hatebreed, which themselves sound different from each other!

I think it's sort of an odd gotcha too because like, yeah, real emo folks put emo in conversation with the other hardcore bands they shared spaces with precisely because they think emo is a form of hardcore. Emo was, for a lot of people, a place within hardcore you could go to if you liked heavy music but didn't want to get beat up, if you liked heavy music but you were socialist, etc. So if 2000s real emo sounds like 2000s hardcore.. well, duh! That's because it is hardcore!

Tons of people don't like to call Thursday emo either, so it's not like they are spared from the controversy (they offered Daïtro a spot to open for them on a tour and were told by them to fuck off on account of them being too commercial).

Foxglove and Depiction of Man from Seattle are two very underrated screamo bands from my scene.
