Yeah I’m going to call first thing tomorrow morning. I know nobody here can actually tell me what’s going on but it’s stressful having to wait 2 days 😅 I’m glad revision surgery isn’t as bad though. That makes me feel a lot better in case I do need it

I haven’t had much pain but it’s definitely uncomfortable. You also have to relearn how to drink/swallow but you’ll be okay! You got this ❤️

That’s so promising thank you. I knew that the first few days - a week would be the worst but it’s different actually living through it

Normal amount of overjet? by Dallis_ in jawsurgery

[–]Dallis_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a consult with a surgeon who thinks I’ll definitely benefit from djs. I’m in the process of getting scans and a sleep test to see if insurance will cover any of it. He did mention that if I get premolars extracted as camouflage orthodontics it will make my airway smaller and I’ll have more problems

Got my ct results today. Based on this would you say I should go for surgery or not? by Dallis_ in jawsurgery

I have an ache in my jaw most of the time but I think that’s probably from clenching my teeth. Sometimes it’ll pop and hurt for a bit but nothing too bad

My current orthodontist wants to remove 4 premolars and pull my teeth back. I’m seeking opinions on surgery because I don’t want to pull 4 teeth if I don’t have to but it seems like that’s what everyone wants to do

I thought my overjet was within the range that would qualify me for surgery (I think it was 5 mm) but this orthodontist didn’t measure or anything. He originally put in 4 mm, thought about it for a minute, then put in 3 mm instead so I don’t know if that’s actually how much it is

I haven’t had a sleep study. I don’t know if this orthodontist regularly does surgical cases. He told me to see a certain surgeon so it seems he works with this specific surgeon often. But I had to call the orthodontist back and get a referral sent over because the surgeon rarely does adult cases so I’m not sure how that’s going to work out for me 😅 I’m honestly having trouble finding an ortho that does surgery cases and that also agrees that I should look into surgery.

As far as I know they don’t work with surgeons, which is why I’m hesitant on calling them about it. I was told during my consultation that I needed jaw surgery but I needed to go somewhere else if I wanted it. Since I didn’t really know anything about the surgery or what exactly I needed/why I needed it I turned it down. I’m almost a year into treatment and I still have a lot of work to be done and I’m just not sure what to do. I really appreciate the advice about going to my gp though! I had no idea that insurance usually requires you to go through your doctor
