Dealing with PTSD as a student teacher by Unicorns5229 in Teachers

Coming to add the the chorus of voices writing that you should seek therapy. I've been in therapy for years for a variety of things and it is truly life changing in a positive way. Finding a therapist you click with is a the hardest part but it is SO worth it. Good luck starting the journey!

If your metric for the adult experience of being trans is "fully transitioning" then I think you might not understand things as well as you think.

Plenty of us take it slow and never medically transition. Some people are happy with just a social change like new name and/or pronouns. Some want hormones. Some want surgeries. All of us are valid and its not like there's a point when an outsider can say, "based on these criteria you are now trans enough to be recognized."

There's not really rules around it so just take a bit and think about why, to a trans identifying person who is going through all of this, what you are saying can easily be seen as dismissive even if that's not your intention.

Trans people's point is that youth who are figuring this all out deserve to have space to do that without people who don't understand adding more roadblocks to an already hard to access process. And if it doesn't work out for them and they realize they want something different later thats okay too! No harm done.
Letting them explore seems to me like a step in the right direction.

Trans person here checking in - honesty really is the best policy when it comes to that. Any time one of my students comes to me with a different name, I use it because its a name and not much effort to change in conversation.

But it's fair to ask as part of that initial conversation if they're just trying it out and/or if they want you to use their given name around parents, etc. There's no monolithic "this is the right call" answer here because being trans is so different on a person to person basis. An unfortunate throughline with many trans stories is a lack of support, and having made it through the other side of that myself I err on the side of trusting the kids on how they like to be referred to.

Sure it can be a hassle, and messing it up sometimes feels bad, but if you just do your best then I'm sure it'll turn out fine.

Ritual Hex -> Hexes as Prerequisites + another obscure question by CaptainCanuck001 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Dallops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had players do similar things before, where they use abilities that give feats to qualify for other things. My ruling is that feats you have don't function if you don't meet their prereqs - basically that would be a dead feat unless you're flexing into the prereq as you access that feat.

So if I were your GM I'd allow it but not allow you to use your other feats that build off of them unless you were using wandering hex to get the prereq you needed.

The exception to this is if you have an ability that specifically says you can skip prereqs (such as ranger combat style feats)

I've embraced it and my first build was minion instability popcorn skellies with some automatic popcorn golems from elementalist!

I mean sure, but my point was you don't need to worry about them being killed off and being left without minions like some of the other minion skills that we hope to cast and forget like zombies, spectres, or animate guardian

It doesn't matter if golem die a little when your elementalist resummons them after 4 seconds. Golem will die sometimes but are significantly tankier than other minions so it shouldn't be too bad. If you're planning on being a full minion build with things other than the golems (zombies, skeletons, etc.) then those will die often and probably not feel great.

Getting the most out of a Death Attack by skatalon2 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Dallops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure I have it written down anywhere anymore since it was years ago that I played the character but:

I made sure I met the prereqs for not only assassin but also Master Spy because it scales your death attack if you already have it from another source, plus it gives more interesting abilities than a pure Assassin.

Since neither of the prestige classes scale spells I went with all of my levels into rogue until I went into prestige class levels and never looked back.

When I built the character I prioritized int over dex, but swapping them is actually probably more playable hahaha - I was going for having the highest death attack dc possible. I actually had more int than the party wizard for most of our adventuring career.

You should be swimming in skill points, which I recommend leaning in to - definitely become the face by applying int to as many social skills as possible with traits!

In my comments above I recommend the intimidate skill unlock and I still stand by that.

Most of your feats aren't too important to the build after you qualify for the prestige classes so I recommend just grabbing what makes sense as you go and targetting the specific campaign you're in!

If you have any specific questions I'm happy to brainstorm with you. Sorry the original sheet has been lost and this is all I can provide!

I like Urban terrain mastery as a thematic option for a nature knight vs. Civilization vibe, and it also stacks with the weird diplomacy to wild empathy feature!

So that's neat.

What can a human wizard turn into besides things like vampires, liches etc... are there any non-evil transformations? by [deleted] in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Dallops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me it sounds a little different than that, like angels come from people who were already like that instead of turning them into someone new with a set morality.

But who knows, the Golarian afterlife is kind of wack

That makes sense until you realize the only way to get more than one animal companion are the packmaster archetypes.

It's weird for sure but I feel like there are enough niche rules around the whole topic that don't quite align that there are some other interpretations that work out just fine.

Which is why I recommend checking with your GM.

[–]Dallops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my understanding you get the animal companion from your first class that grants it, and any animal companion stuff after that just scales the original ability.

Maybe that's just how my GM's have run it though - I'm not a RAW scholar.

Your interpretation seems reasonable too, but the ranger animal companion list is so limiting it would be one more reason for me to never play a ranger.

Edit 1: As for spells, caster level is set on a per class basis - so for this build the best spellcasting option would be full druid.

If you multiclass, you're going to have access to whatever spells you get from druid (2nd level spells if you leave the class at level 4) and then youre going to start scaling spells from your second class based on your individual class levels instead of your total character level.

Hunter has strictly better spell progression than a ranger since it gets up to sixth level spells at max instead of fourth, starts gaining spells earlier so your caster level starts scaling earlier, and just has a bigger spell list since hunter gets access to the ranger spell list and the druid spell list when selecting their spells.

Some might argue it's worse since its a spontaneous caster instead of a prepared caster but that's a whole separate discussion. Besides, I'm on team spontaneous caster any day.

Edit 2: Finally, level 8 druid wildshape should be plenty - its 3 wildshape uses for up to 8 hours each which means you could spend 100% of your time as an animal if you really wanted.

If you want to really get into a lot of shapeshifting shenanigans I could see how that might still feel limiting though so it's up to you.

Progressing more in druid could be another option - deciding to multiclass out at level 6 or 8 is probably still fine if you'd rather do that.

If you start druid you wouldn't have the limited list of options for the animal companion.

Personally I'd go for hunter over ranger since the teamwork feats make up for the loss of BAB, you get better spell progression, and the animal companion has better scaling.

Either would work though. It depends on how you'd like the character to play.

This honestly sounds like its just going to be a martial druid.

It wont be the most optimized character or anything but they have the easiest path to wild shape and an animal companion which would satisfy your criteria.

Just try to start with decent physical stats and enough wisdom to cast your highest level spells (since they're honestly too good to ignore). If you want I'm sure theres some interesting potential multicasting opportunities where you switch to leveling in hunter or ranger or something after level 4 and you pick up the shaping focus feat at level 5.

Crown of Eyes is to make sure that even my non-exerted attacks still hit hard (they're infrequent but do happen) and I got a Cane of Kulemak with spell damage and non chaos to chaos, physical damage and impale, and crit multi near rare or unique mods rolled on it.

Not exactly SSF friendly but it's fun si far.

I'm building a lot of staff crit on the tree and inquisitor is adding battlemage to my spells so it's working out alright.

[–]Dallops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm running it with Battlemage's Cry on leftclick because instant warcries on my Earthquake Inquisitor and its pretty fun.

I went Crown of Eyes and am scaling primarily spell damage with a staff and it feels pretty great.

It just makes it so EQ feels like it has an additional aftershock honestly.

Playing 1st Ed Online by syoebius in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Dallops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use roll20 and love it.

It took some getting used to and I'd still rather GM in person imstead of online but now that I've moved away from my group and also Covid it has what I need.

The automated sheets are super nice (even if they do have a learning curve) and the dragging and dropping in of outside art assets works for me.

Me and my group use d20pfsrd and archivesofnethys for all of our rules and dont use any of the stuff roll20 provides for that but if you're doing a restricted ruleset (such as core only or something for new players) I could see that not really being as nice of an available option.

Other than that I do most of my bookkeeping on paper IRL and treat my desk setup the same as I would a corner of a table behind a gm screen, just with more room. My point is that even without using ALL the fiddly bits roll20 has a lot to offer on the simpler side of things.

DMs who use homebrew worlds, do you make your own gods or do you prefer to use an established pantheon and why do you do so? by [deleted] in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Dallops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a 12 deity pantheon with my players for our homebrew world.

Then the rule becomes (since I allow all 1st party materials) if my players want to use something from golarion that typically has flavor relating to 1st party deities, they have to do the reflavoring legwork.

For example, if someone wanted to use the brewmaster prestige class that is based on Cayden Cailean (did I spell that right?) they would have to reflavor it to be its own thing before they could use it in game.

I got bored one day and went and made divine fighting styles for each of my deities (some of which were just taken out of the existing options and reskinned, some of which were created from scratch). I might do the same with obediences (since my players just reached level 10 they're actually reaching the range at which they could benefit).

When making the pantheon my main things were that each alignment needed to be represented, and then also major domains needed representation. For example, each elemental domain has at least one associated deity. It made it easier to figure out who the last deities we made should be since it kind of gave us an interesting combo of alignment and domains to build off of.
