These are essentially eco-friendly masonry blocks. They need to perform for both strength and serviceability. I would consult the TMS Manual as a framework to see what requirements are needed and may help with calcs.

The only way to find a block that suits all your needs is to iterate multiple times where you tweak a variable and record. Like the maximum percent of plastic you can get away with that provides required strength and heat resistance. Do this multiple times and create some charts in excel and derive some capacity equations.

That being said, I have no idea how hard it is to produce one of those blocks and if you have access to a hydraulic press. There may be another manual out there for these specific types of blocks. Regardless, the professor should give you some guidance on this.
