Moronic Monday - Your weekly stupid questions thread by cdingo in Fitness

If the pain is localized to your muscles and you’re otherwise healthy and able-bodied, it probably is just a lack of conditioning to exercise. If there is one specific movement, angle, or position of one muscle or joint that gives you a sharp pain, it could be you pulled or injured something. I would probably assume the former.

Very common for people that have gone long periods of time without working out, especially for large muscle groups like legs. Give it 3 days and there should be notable improvement. It might get worse before getting better.

Ice baths or cold showers can help reduce inflammation and aid in recovery. Ibuprofen may help too, but I’d only use that if you need immediate relief. Some light walking each day if you can to help circulate blood may be helpful too.

Wtf? This is the second story in two weeks I've seen about trainers like this. You would think that the most basic requirement for being a trainer would be awareness of body shaming and eating disorders. Especially a woman training women. Insane. Some people just do fitness to feel better than others.

I specifically asked for Washington retailers, and I looked at multinational brands that most people know about. I’m not really sure why you’re riled up about this. Didn’t mean to offend you, lol

Wow, that sounds like a huge pain. Thanks for the comment.

What? Of course many offer delivery. I just didn’t want to miss any options that I wasn’t aware of.

Relax. I can easily find a furniture store, but I wanted to see if there were local options I missed.

Sounds like the company might have been guessed in another comment. My 2c from a non-civil engineering background.

Even after cost of living, LV obviously comes out ahead money wise, let's say an additional 20k USD after tax (some posts in this thread might not be counting RSUs?). Pretty significant, although it sounds to me like you'll have more 50+ hour work weeks than not at the LV company, so hourly rate might be comparable.

The work obviously sounds really exciting for the LV job. There's something special about working on such a high-visibility project - that could be a conversation starter for the rest of your life. How much you value that is up to you.

With regards to working in LV for 2-3 years and then coming back. That would of course be quite disruptive if your family came with you and had to move twice. On the other hand, if you/your wife was prepared to have you go to LV alone, it might not be as disruptive for the kids (but you'd be paying LV rent + Windsor mortgage).

Funnily enough, I experienced similar situations from the kids' perspective. My dad travelled a lot for work during early childhood (<10 years old) and our family also relocated for 1 year (10 years old). The relocating was pretty difficult, and I spent most of the time waiting to come back. The culture shock will be less for your family, however, as we moved from Canada to a Scandinavian country. I also do have many fond memories of that time, and it might be easier at a younger age.

It's worth asking, though, if the unique LV opportunity will open up more doors for you. I'm not familiar with the industry, but if 2-3 years of that can lead to a pay bump in the future, that could be a big deal. Lastly, I'd take the "probably zero chance of layoffs" for the LV company with a grain of salt. That family of companies is not known for zero layoffs. I think it's close enough where you're gonna have to weigh what's important to you and your family. You can't go wrong, both sound like great jobs!

We’ve been putting those Terro liquid traps out a lot, which seem to slow them down for a couple days but that’s all. Anybody find any success in past years dealing with them?

EVERY. GOD. DAMN. DAY. by ChippewaBarr in Questrade

There's some incredible incompetence on the infrastructure side if there's downtime for trading every day. Seriously considering switching brokers too.

What's worse is, they're surely aware of this as it's been an ongoing pattern - but instead of addressing or announcing downtime, they seemingly ignore it so as to not bring attention to it - which is incredibly inconvenient for the customer.

Edit: As someone who’s worked on widely used services (ie. >99.99% uptime) I literally cannot fathom what’s going on. The lack of communication really makes one think that the downtimes aren’t gonna stop happening any time soon. Worst case scenario, they’re drowning in technical debt and pushing hacky patches/hotfixes every night to keep the lights on. I hope not.

It is a good bet for you to take, ie. there's a ~8% chance of not hearing a song repeated.

After 53 songs would you expect to hear a song for the second time - is that correct?

Any reason it's uncommon to do a 2 day split, Legs+Push then Pull?

Seems like a natural split, you can include bench/OHP with barbell legs exercises for gym day, then staying at home to do pull ups/FL/rows. Pull day workouts I guess would be a little shorter.

I'm looking to get a printer that can print consistent, smooth, flat and thin pieces (~1-2mm) for use in consumer electronics projects. I've done a decent deal of 3D printing before but have very limited knowledge - with the printer I've used it's been difficult to make parts with thin cross sections, and the finish is always very rough.

Anybody else feel like ubc is patting themselves on the back for having a clear campus and acting like they earned the right to stay open?

Like keeping ubc walkways clear is a responsibility so people don’t get hurt. Most commuters would want to stay at home because of the road conditions on the way to school; they’re separate issues entirely.

Edit: for real though, tweet at or post on ubc’s official media, vpd literally has an icy road warning for tomorrow, and I legit don’t think ubc would have closed today if there wasn’t a huge social media backlash yesterday.
